If you know what you're doing, don't mind reams of pushy salesmen trying to rip you off or need something old or rare, definitely. |

No, it's terrible. I'll happily pay an extra 20,000w for a new monitor at my local Hi-Mart or E Mart rather than walk around in that cesspool of filth.
And if you really need that style of electronic shopping for computer parts or something, go to Technomart.
And for the record, I just use the Internet these days for computer stuff. |

Yongsan is the place to go if you want to:
Train or hone your skills on haggling.
Want to revolutionize your people skills and grow a really thick skin.
Test your patience... how far can people push you.
Lose some weight... walking up and down and all around to find the perfect deal-- which doesn't exist.
If I forgot any, feel free to add. |

Yongsan is horrible as a shopping experience......confusing, messy, no prices on stuff, so if they judge you to be uninformed they'll rape you.
It seems to have developed in a way that suits sellers, not customers.
I only buy online. Haven't been to Yongsan for 5 years.......well, I did go about 2 years ago to return some RAM because I was nearby anyway. But I certainly haven't bought anything there in 5 years. |

I don't mind going to Yongsan with a few caveats:
a) Be aware of what you want and what it is worth (if you don't you will pay more for it).
b) DON'T buy anything in the mall above Yongsan station! (except maybe a coffee)
In order of falling prices and improving quality:
Yongsan station
Terminal building (the blue one attached by the pedway over the tracks.
Nanjin arcade
Seon-in plaza (the place with the sideways gigabyte sign on it (to the right of the blue building if you are standing at yongsan station and looking across the tracks).
The good thing about Yongsan electronics markets are that you can find stuff you won't find in other places (older or obsolete stuff for your 3 year old computer (DDR RAM, power supplies for older laptops, etc)).
The flea market on the north side of the seon-in plaza can be a geeks paradise.
You can get just about anything repaired (even when the "branded" A/S people say they can't).
It really does depend on what you are looking for.
I like places like J-TEC for parts (they are a local wholesaler and they do sell retail at a discount) and they will custom build a system for you while you wait (parts +20k won). Prices are listed, they will show you the prices on their computer screen and print off an itemized receipt for you.
It is a nice place to go and kick the tires to get a feeling for what is happening in the local market (especially for those who cannot use sites like Danawa) before you commit to buying anything.

Only reason you should go to Yongsan is for the underground videogames market tunnel thingy. You can get all the pirated systems you want there. I personally like the seller fourth down on the right. Used to go to the third guy, but he screwed me over once and it's been the fourth since then. |

I hate yongsan and shopping for electronics in Korea in general. Way overpriced. My h2 zoom microphone at yongsan was not available anywhere nor did they anyone even know what an h2 was. I looked online and the price was more than double the price in the US.
Asus motherboard I just bought in Korea cost $100 more in Korea as well. |

most electronics comes from yongsan, you might as well buy it there. just work on your negotiating skills or make a print out from g-market and see if they will beat g-market's price. |

Probably half the stores (if not more) in the underground console arcade will be able to do it for you.
To get there:
from yongsan station follow the Signs for the electronics market. This will take you thought an overpass tunnel to what used to be a bus station. From there go 1 floor down and look for another tunnnel. Once you get out of the tunnel, head down the stairs and go left. You'll see the video game tunnel on your left. |
