Many Koreans and expatriates havent had the chance to enjoy boating in Korea because it is often regarded as a luxury sport for the affluent class.
On top of that, there are few marinas where people can indulge their desire for being out on the water.
To help more Seoul residents experience the fun of boating, the Seoul Metropolitan Government said it will open the Seoul Marina on Han River near the National Assembly in Yeouido on April 16, where visitors can rent boats for a reasonable price.
Renting a dinghy that can accommodate up to three people will cost 4,000 won ($3.67) per hour for each person and 15,000 won per hour per person for a six-person boat.
The Seoul Marina can accommodate up to 90 boats and its four-story building consists of a boating academy, restaurants, convention center and a lounge.
Boating courses will be available for beginners, both adults and children.
Children from low-income families will be able to get a free rental from Aug. 1 to Oct. 31.
A reservation is required. For more information, visit the Seoul Marina Web site at http://www.seoul-marina.com or call 02-423-7888.
Meanwhile, the city government will also run a ferry service to help bicycle riders in Mangwon Han River Park to get to the Seoul Marina starting April 16.
The ferry ride is 1,000 won per person. The ride takes about 10 minutes and it will run on an hourly basis.
In 2009, Seoul city government appointed the Seoul Marina as the private business to run the Seoul Marina. The company invested 27 billion won to build the boating facilities.

I don't know if I'd consider 100,000/hour a reasonable price. Certainly puts it well out of reach of a poorer family of 4. |

Well, if they're poor, they better just rent two dinghys for 24,000 won/hour. |

I wonder what kind of boats? Seems kind of dangerous for untrained Koreans boating around the river. |
