I brought 5 smart/work trousers and 7 shirts, 3 ties and 4 jumpers. to cover everyday of the week and spares, and for casual/weeekend wear i only brought 1 pair of tidy jeans, maybe 7 tshirts and 3 hoodies, plus a pair of tatty jeans with holed knees (for hikes, or fixing stuff, etc).
anyway, turned up all nice and smart on my first day, trousers shirt tie jumper, and was told not to bother with smart clothes, just jeans and hoody will be fine.
now ive got a wardobe full of tidy work clothes im not going to wear for a year, but i guess theyre there in case, and not sat in a wardrobe the other side of the world..
the other downside is i dont have enough clothes to get me througha working week properly... having more work clothes than casual, but actually working in your casual clothes too means i gotta go shopping come payday.... |
Conversely, my first job was all OK with casual clothes, and then half a year later I found myself teaching at a place where suits/shirt and tie became pretty much a requirement.
It pays to be prepared. |

| I fly out tomorrow morning and after reading this I feel like I wont need my 4 suits that I packed. At my old teaching job state-side I NEEDED to wear a suit everyday. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what they say. I will have to find a way to get more casual clothes. I'll be teaching elementary school kids. I'm just a suit kind of guy. I always enjoyed wearing them. |

| I would bring one blazer/jacket, several ties, at least four pairs of slacks and four to six dress shirts. Beyond that, casual clothes and underwear. You can never have enough underwear. But don't fret, you can buy cheap, decent clothes in Korea at flea markets. |

up for the $250, I got as I say 5 hand made shirts for work/business, plus included in the extras were 5 short sleeved casual/work shirts. So I think I've got it covered.
Personally, I think I'll avoid Itaewan for suits, the beach at Nga Tran (just named in Tripadvisers top 10 in the world) is a far better place to hang out while waiting for your suits/shirts to be tailored.
For everything I bought, my trip basically was free, when comparing what I would have paid for the equivalent cut/quality in a western country
Then again I avoid Itaewon like the plague so I'm probably a tad biased
That suit and shirts won't last two minutes, and Nga Tran is not in any way and I repeat not in any way in the top ten beaches in the world. I can think of at least 10 better beaches in Oz, let alone the Carib!! I was in the Nam 10 years ago, worked the spot your talking better, it was a toxic shite hole back then. Best thing about the place was the abundant of Swedish birds!!
And why avoid Itaewon!! It's the best spot in the whole of korea for foreign food and ales!!
I teach government workers, they're more interested in my subject knowledge than whether I'm wearing a bleeding suit. Smart casual cuts the muster!! Being unable to explain the difference between can and will, will most definitely see me heading for the exit door, even if I was dressed like Alan Sugar!!! |

Sounds like 4 suits too many to me, but it sounds like each school is different. |
