Hey guys,
I got a job offer from a school called Avalon. I have been looking on the blacklists and looking for blogs and I can't find anything that is too negative about the school. Can anyone give me more information/personal experience about this school!
Thanks! |

Avalon... don't they sell cheap cosmetics?
Opps... maybe I was thinking of Avon.
Avalon had something to do with King Arthur legends.
OP: it is a chain. Pick a location. They are all the same but different.

I was offered a job there in Busan. They say the pay is between 2 million and 2.6 million, but you start off at 2 million and they may bump you to something higher (I was told during the interview) if the supervisor likes you. But who knows when that happens, and who knows to how much.
Also, during the interview, I was told that the director of the school wanted to save money, so could I either pay for my own flight, or not need an apartment in Busan.
The interview ended abruptly after this. If they wanted to save money up front, what would they do to me once I was employed by them. |

Lol - Now I feel a little anxious to say the least!
I only arrived mid week and on Friday night my boss called me into his office and said that on two of the days of the week he only has 1 hour for me. He then went on with how expensive the flight and my accommodation was/is and this made me feel very uneasy. ( I mean that was part of the contract, the way he was saying it implied that he was doing me a massive favour).
He then said that he was thinking about running some extra classes teaching adults starting 2 hours earlier then my agreed starting time. I said I wasn't too happy about this and he said we would discuss it on Monday.
What a thought to leave me with on my first weekend here in Korea. He also said the only other option is to outsource me to another school.
The more I think about it the more annoyed I get. Why didn't he tell me this before I came?! We signed the contract 6 weeks prior!!! |

What campus are you at? It must not be Haeundae because Avalon won't outsource you to work anywhere else, plus it clearly states in your contract that you get an apartment and 1.2 million won for a flight.
You must be with someone who purchases the rights to own an Avalon franchise but is not actually directly affiliated with the company. Either way, follow the conditions of your contract and don't get taken advantage of because the boss is looking to make some extra coin.
Avalon teachers elementary and middle school, and Langcom does the younger students. No adult students in Avalon. |

Its not an Avalon school, its a privately owned franchise yeah for a different company though. Yeah it said my flights and accommodation would be taken care of and I didn't expect this to be used against me for leverage!
He said that if I started 2 hours earlier I would earlier but didn't actually mention that I would finish 2 hours earlier though! I like working from the afternoon though it gives me time to do stuff in the morning! Is he allowed to blatantly fiddle with the contract conditions like this?
