Do pretty much all hagwons offer only 10 days of vacation?

lol point taken!

I am looking for a new school so I was going to consider hagwons as well...but 10 days is too little.

10 days is average from what I've seen. The trick is getting those 10 days in two one-week blocks. I think it's becoming more and more common for employers to give you one day off every now and then, but never more than a few in a row.

Why is it that people don't realize that re-signing is an opportunity to renegotiate some of the terms of these contracts? An extra week to visit the family that you haven't seen in a year is NOT too much to ask and it is much cheaper to give you that than it is to recruit another teacher, and if you have to, you can give up pay for that week...saves them even more money!

Sad but true. Some friends who work at Avalon told me that at their school taking Mon~Fri off = 9 vacation days (Sat-Sun + Mon-Fri + Sat-Sun).

Yes.
Although don't expect it at Avalon, GnB, YBM, Poly, etc etc etc.

The hakwon at which I work closes twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, so 4 weeks of vacation, plus all the red days. Additional weeks of vacation are perks for re-signing and subsequent years....

More than 10 days vacation is not normal or typical, but such a thing DOES exist in hakwons, Virginia....

I can understand where you're coming from but some of us like to have a break in the middle of the year to "recharge". I think an extra week at home seeing my family would be nice, but going an entire year with only a day off here and there is hardly a consolation.

On top of that I doubt a lot of hagwons like to give holidays off. I actually don't mind a few weeks of public school deskwarming so that's not a negative for me.

I'm not trying to turn this into a hagwon vs. PS debate. I just put prefer to travel when I'm not working and I don't think a hagwon schedule would be good for that.

I have 6 days of vacation on my current contract. However, if I continue with the school they said I could get 20 days....
the perks of continuing with the same school are sometimes worth staying..... they wanted to match the public schools.
If you're a good teacher, the students like you and you are liked by everyone, you can negotiate....
