Has anyone applied for a basic disclosure online.....while still living in korea?

I know it says that you should have been residing in the uk for 12 months, but do they actually check? I'm sure some people have done it before.



also, does my degree certificate need to be notarised by a solicitor for 70 quid first, or is a signature and a stamp for 5 quid suffice?

You pretty much have to apply using paper, I'm afraid. I don't think they'll process it if you live abroad if you apply online. They processed my application via paper application recently.

Signature and stamp from a notary public for 5/10 quid is sufficient.

If you use a UK address then they will assume you reside there and process it all online for you.^^

Essentially you can apply online, just using a UK address... they won't know the difference. However, you will need to send them a scan of a document - Gas, electricity or phone bill, or something from a government department or local authority which confirms your current address (eg tax return; voter registration letter or something similar).

From memory, they don't accept bank statements for some reason - It would be worth checking this with them by Email. If this is likely to be a problem, I'd suggest writing a letter with some minor query to your local authority, or to a government department, addressed from wherever you're using as your UK application address. They should respond on official headed paper, which *should* be acceptable as proof to Disclosure Scotland.

You don't strictly 'need' the documents. I applied initially in the Uk when I first came with all the docs, and then did it online after that once I was in Seoul. Perhaps because they still had my information on the system so they never asked for it again? I used my home addres in the UK and its been the same address since my initial application. I have applied online twice now without any documents and it has been processed fine.

Great news - makes life a lot simpler for everyone!

I find it quite ironic that our American friends need fingerprints/FBI clearance/personal recommendation from the President himself to get a job, while we, it seems, don't even have to submit all the documents...

I have done it twice from Korea, the first time I sent off a bank statement and I think a copy of my passport (i'm not sure if I needed to or not), the second time it took me a couple of days to remember to ask someone at home to send off the docs and apparantly my check had alreadya rrived without needing them.

How risky is it to apply online while in Korea? I have a document with my UK address on it, but im also acutely aware that another government agency, the Student loans company, knows my address in korea. I know the UK government is completely incompetant when it comes to cross departmental papertrails, but theres always the fear of being the one who gets caught out.

As someone who used to work for the Student Loans Company let me reassure you they don't cross reference ANYTHING

The question is though , do Disclosure Scotland actively check?

I also almost forgot, I few months before I left the UK, I was the victim of a crime (a hold up). apparently a month or so after I left the Police charged 2 suspects and called my parents home to see if I would give evidence. Obviously I couldn't and the police were told the reason why.

I want to apply online, but I'm worried that somehow that will get back to Disclosure Scotland, via the police.
