Struggling a bit to figure this out. Most job listings say to have a copy of my diploma notarized by a notary service, and apostilled by a local Korean Consulate (I'm in California).

I emailed the Consulate in SF and asked if they provide such a service, but they told me that I will need to have it apostilled by the Secretary of State in Sacramento (our capitol).

Will an apostille by the Secretary of State be acceptable? Or do I need to go through the Consulate?

Thanks, in advance.

I believe that it is only Canadians who have to go through their local embassy to get their diploma's apostilled. An apostille from your state will be acceptable.
The info for California is at http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/authentication.htm.

So where do we get the diploma notarized first? I have a CA diploma. Is the process:

1. Mail it somewhere (where? my school?) to get it notarized

2. Have the notarizing people send that to CA sec of state for apostillization

?

Banks, UPS stores, Schools, most have some kind of notary public option.

For my diploma I went to the Registrar's office and had it notarized then sent it to my State's Secretary of State office with a note explaining that I was going to South Korea, along with the application for the apostille and check for how much it cost.
