Nothing wrong with doing what you enjoy rather than feeling a joke of a civil obligation. Some people have strong evolutionary instincts to bear children (which scares me when I see it in women).
I enjoy doing other things- including not wearing a tie everyday. I'm still an adult. |
But there is something wrong with that. It is a huge problem. People need instant gratification and simple pleasures. That is a problem. Has nothing to do with civil obligation. Cave men raised kids. It has to do with modern de-obligation.

I'm just talking about kids, man. I never said there was anything wrong with settling down with a fine lady and putting the bar scene behind you. You seem to think that having kids and being an adult are synonymous or something.
If you're implying that having kids is more pleasurable because it requires more effort, then allow the hedonist in me to laugh in your face. It's just not for some people.
I'd rather be James Bond than Ward Cleaver. |

So ergo the only way to be a grown up is to have more responsibilities, therefore having children is the best path towards being a "grown up" (your term, not mine). That makes absolutely no sense. How about being adult enough to decide what you want out of your own life on your own terms? So what if im adverse to responsibilty? Does that not make me a smart, mature, polite, critical thinker with his own worldview and ideals? Oh wait, I guess I must still be a baby because don't want to do work.
Children are more work and more pleasurable? That's a completely subjective idea, as others in this thread have already said. And that was cute, trying to claim that because I answered some question about dating a celebrity you think I "whine about relationships". Nice try, man, better luck next time. Next time you try to attack someone's views then maybe you should take a second to calm down, before you start to think that anyone who doesn't agree with you is some stoner slouch who doesn't care about themselves or anyone else. |

I understand rumdiary's point of view.
If everybody stopped reproducing, that would spell the end of humanity.

| People change as they get older. Some people are late developers and only realise they'd like to have kids when they hit their forties and finally get tired of the hedonistic approach. TEFL probably contains more people like this than other areas as people are reluctant to give up what they see as their greater freedom compared to those who stay behind. |

I'd say there's a bit of priviledge in there as well. We're really only maybe the 2nd or 3rd generation who has the option of choosing to not have children, and that's not true in most of the world. Children are needed to make money (as not intuitive as that may seem in the modern developed world), or like Korea and China, children are needed as a retirement plan. |

I wouldn't ever want to bear a kid, as I think it's selfish, what with all of the orphans without families. I'd definitely like to adopt, though. Probably only one, as kids are very expensive and I'd want to spoil both my kid AND my husband.
With the right woman, there's more than enough love and affection for a child and a husband.  |
