I recently got a job at a public elementary school in Kyung Gi...
I'm not used to co-teaching because I had taught at an immersion school for a long time...
How does it work? You can't talk at the same time~~~~
My partner cuts me off or writes grammar explanations while I'm explaining....It is sooooo annoying!!!!!.
Please help me as I'm frustrated with my partner teacher...

Sorry. That is the nature of the beast you live with now.

You could try and work it out, give your co-teacher something to work with and teach the students while you help them individually or just follow their lead.

Are you the Assistant teacher? Check your contract. And be happy your co-teacher is actually teaching with you

The most important thing is communication. Don't try to wing it. Sit down with your co-teacher and discuss how you plan to teach. If you just walk in cold without trying to discuss beforehand there are just so many opportunities for miscommunication. On the other hand if your co-teacher is a Bujangnim (head teacher) it's best to allow them to lead the lesson and you just follow. There are two obvious reasons for this. Firstly a Bujangnim or head teacher has a lot of extra work to do. Demanding he/she sit on on all your meetings will create lots of problems with your relationship with them. Secondly Bujangnims tend to teach for the test. They also answer to the Principal/Vice Principal making waves with them can seriously kill your career.

If your co-teacher is a contract teacher or Interm you out-rank they are there to just translate and solve discipline problems. If your co-teacher is a regular teacher or homeroom teacher it's best to play it by ear. Sometimes they need to cover something in the text that will appear on the exam. Sometimes you will get lucky and have a regular full time Teacher let you take the lead. For me this is the best situation. Just plan a good lesson and watch the fireworks go off.

Last week my coteacher asked me to start leading the classes. I did, and the first day went badly because I deviated a bit from what she does and we both ended up in a bad mood about it. The next day I did exactly what she does, she told me how much better I was- and from then on has went back to leading every class. Baffling. Maybe she was just bored. I can't say I'm too bothered. What I do now is perhaps the easiest money I'm ever likely to make

Co-teaching can be a real pain though. On Tuesdays I teach classes by myself at a middle school and it's harder work but a relief at the same time

How does it work?

*_* Mostly, it doesn't.

You can't talk at the same time~~~~

Nope, you'll have to be silent while the KT babbles on.

My partner cuts me off or writes grammar explanations while I'm explaining....It is sooooo annoying!!!!!.

Laughing

There's really not a lot you can do except grin and bear it. I've known a few who have tried to fight for their way in the class..... mostly that turns out much worse.

See if you can talk to your KT outside of class about your roles, and what she expects. If she will even discuss things at all, it's a good sign. My last one refused.

I love the fact that my co-teachers do nothing, other than occasionally help students with worksheets or keep score on games. I like having my own class, including most discipline. But who knows, I'm only on my second month of PS (after 2 years in kindy).

You have what I always wished for while I was working in the PS system.

If I could have had that, I would have done my best to stay on as long as possible.

Co-teaching is a massive crapshoot. It's akin to taking your life savings to Los Vegas.
