I've heard the basic exam is pretty easy and it's a big jump from basic to intermediate. I'd like to take the TOPIK basic exam this fall and am hoping to get a level 2. Any tips on books to study? And just how easy is easy?

Topik level 1 and 2 are the same test. If you get a decent grade you get level 2, if you score between 50-70% I think you get level 1.

The questions are like "What is this?" ___ Picture. Then you have four options "This is a bag" "This is a book" etc. Anyway that's what it looked like when I looked at a couple pages of it. You can download sample tests from their site online.

It's too easy for me to even bother with even though I find the level 3-4 exam a bit too tough to pass I think. My plan is just to work a little harder and longer and be able to take 3-4.

You can download sample tests on the TOPIK website. I've taken one so far with plans to take at least two more before Sunday (I'm taking the beginner level on Sunday.) They also have the 듣기 files available for download, although in the beginning they're so slow you want to shoot yourself.

Darakwon has a good prep book called "Complete Guide to the TOPIK" that's made up of old tests and includes a lot of the vocabulary you might need.

From the beginner test. Pretty easy stuff. There is a jump, quite a big on up to intermediate. If it takes you over one minute to read and answer the above two questions, then you should stick with the beginner test.

Hey everyone, thanks so much. I'm hoping to get the beginner this year and thought about applying fot the F2 points next year. BUt then I realised if I got the F2, I could never get an F5, since you need level 5 Korean. So I thought I could wait a bit, try to pass level 3 and see if I can get the F5A visa.

Nice little link. I'm trying the intermediate test this Sunday. I have a pretty good grasp of the grammar I've seen on the intermediate level practice tests, so I think it'll come down to whether I luck out on the vocabulary.

Good luck.

Good luck everyone. Looking through the beginner level test I realized that I should have studied at least a little bit of polite Korean (jodemal?). Oh well, I seem to get by with banmal Wink
