Has anyone had experiences with people (Korean teachers/school admin) taking your picture in class when you are trying to teach? Does this upset or anger you? For me, I can't stand it and asked them to stop. Maybe now I'll get fired.
I just find it so rude when schols treat foreigners as a commodity to 'show off' and advertise. It is an invasion of our privacy and personal space. I think if they need models they should hire some for advertising!!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad

Privacy? mm Maybe? Personal space? Are they doing head shots of you while your teaching?

It's just the way it is. We're like a shiny new toy. The sooner you realize it and get over it, the better.

the only argument you could make is that it's distracting to your class.. if they are taking pictures randomly during your class and it's not that big of a distraction to your teaching.. then get over it

Why not? Our job is a teacher. Not model/advertiser/school promotor.

your cut is your salary, free apt and plane ticket. ask your korean coworkers what their cut is and you will prolly get 1 out of 3 listed above.

Be careful. I noticed that they really try to get a shot of you with a really stupid look on your face, doing something really stupid or a picture of you with an angry look/doing something that could be considered threatening when taken out of context.

That's a good point. Kind of disturbing, but I could see it happening like that at some places.

I've never had a problem with it as long as it's not every other day. If it's just a slight interruption, then it's no problem.

A teacher is a public face of the school, like it or not. While you may not LIKE to have your picture taken (and I do not), and while it would be POLITE for them to ask your permission in advance, the school is well within its rights. There is no presumption of "privacy" in one's class -- in fact, quite the opposite.

It may be rude -- I do not disagree with that. It may be distracting -- I see how it could be. It may be annoying and bothersome, and even upsetting -- it would indeed upset me. However, it is NOT an invasion of "privacy," as there is NO presumption of privacy in the classroom, and it is NOT an invasion of personal space, unless the camera operator gets into your "bubble." Much as we might WANT our classrooms to be our personal space, they are NOT.

I agree with your feelings and reactions, but I am afraid your justifications are not solid. It's annoying because it's annoying, not annoying because it is wrong of them to do. The rudeness of it is debatable, and I would agree it is rude without permission....

That's true. When they knew it started pissing me off and I aksed them to stop that is when they started taking more. Then they would say things like "You looked so surprised and angry so we deleted it."

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago.

The first time I didn't mind it too much, even though it was really disruptive. (One of the guys telling the students to raise their hands, asking me to point at a student, etc.) But whatever, just one time, no big deal.

Next class the same dude comes and asks me to leave my class and go to a different class for more pictures. By now I'm starting to get kinda annoyed, but whatever, I go do it. Same as before, asking students to raise their hands, and me to teach (even though this wasn't my class) but whatever, I did it and left as quickly as possible.

When he came to get me in an afternoon class the same day I'd had enough. I swallow my anger, go with him to a different class, and stand there for a picture. (probly looking pretty pissed) The teacher who was responsible for that class continued his lesson, I stood there. After a minute of that the dude asks me again 'OK, it's your turn!'.

I got kinda angry and told him this isn't my class, and I have nothing to say, and walked out.

Like I said, I didn't mind it the first time, but it really pissed me off for them to continually disrupt my class like that.

I did. The liar said he just took pictures of the kids then I asked to see the camera. He turned red and started pretending the camera did not work. After 5 minutes of his intentional and fake fussing, I took it from him and lo and behold there I was.

The lying dog face.
