I'd like to transfer schools when my contract is up in August, but I cannot get a clean nation-wide CBC(was arrested, it was dismissed, but no expungment is allowed).

It seems that I can renew at my school with no problems, but it is less clear whether I can transfer schools. It seems that it would be up to the immigration officer involved, or something like that.

Could people post their experiences with transferring schools this year?

if same poe but different ps, you don't need it.

if hagwon or poe transfer, you need everything new.

I'd be coming from a hagwon so that's not the most encouraging news.

I transferred just last Wednesday from a hakwan to a public school. It did not require any criminal check or transcripts. I did not need to order a thing.

Ah, yes. I was looking at a transfer as switching your visa from one school to another before the ARC expiry date.

You get ONE change of status (extension, renewal, transfer) during 2011 without needing new documents.

If you do a 2nd change of status you will need to submit a new one.
If you do a change AFTER Jan 2012 you will need to submit a new one.

If you go to renew they won't say no and kick you out. They will, if they want new docs, get you to sign an acknowledgment that you need to submit them and extend or transfer your visa for another year.

CAVEAT:
The above is only true in the case of transfer at the end of your visa (or with a LOR) and BEFORE your ARC expires. IF you need to extend before your transfer you are screwed.

ttompatz, you're not someone I would typically disagree with, but I've personally spoken to a couple people who were requested to submit new documents in order to transfer this year(their first change of status in 2011). Was this something they could have refused to do and still gotten their visas?

Has immigration published a written statement of this policy? I figure I'm going to run into trouble with recruiters who don't know any better and I'll need something to convince them that I am employable without those documents...

My contract is up with my hagwon at the end of july, 2011....I plan on re-signing and staying another year. If I am going to re-sign, you are saying that I don't have to get the criminal background check done this time? But, I will have to get it done if I re-sign in August 2012 though right? Am I following this right? Hope it is the case, any information given is appreciated.

I called immi a month ago and they backed what ttompatz said: you are granted one transfer before 2012 without needing new docs.
Of course this is Korea, not the most bureaucratically efficient country on the planet, that's for sure.

I called the Immi hotline and the lady said I could extend without resubmitting documents. Rules are waived until 2012.

This was for extending at the same hagwon.
