Of course Seoul, everywhere accepts credit cards. But what about the smaller cities and more rural areas? Will I be running into problems trying to pay by credit card?

It's mostly a bartering system outside of Seoul. Be sure to bring a chicken or maybe a deer hide to cover your bus ride back to civilization. Or maybe you'll get a better deal with some shiny beads.

Credit cards are accepted everywhere. I've even used my bank card at some of markets in the traditional markets area where all the ajumas have ply their wares.
Korea is a modern G20 country. Just like how you can use your credit card outside of NYC in places like Montana and Arkansas, you can use your credit card or Korean bank card in any backwater Korean town.
