Hey,
I've seen a couple around here and there, but I can't find them on gmarket, try as i might.
I'm only interested in the smooth Full HD-playback, HDMI output that can handle 10+ GB MKVs and MP4 and hopefully .ts files....
You plug an external HDD into the player via USB, and then the HDMI goes to your tv ofc...
Anyone got a link or any information on these guys? |

Western Digital
I have friends that have bought these. They say they are prone to failure. Also, I woudn't trust the installed codecs.
I have a HTPC and occcasionally need to update/reinstall codecs and filters, especially when using subtitles. I don't know if these things are capable.
Also, a HTPC gives you more options such as youtube, and other streaming media.
edit: fixed the link

ah i see.
the ones my friends have are definitely not WD.
Seems that a search for "DIVX" or "DIVX 플레이어" leads to the good stuff on gmarket
저장장치/메모리 > 대분류 보기 > DIVX 플레이어
look at this one here, for example. little bugger does everything:

If anyone has any experience with one of these off-brand pieces, please share ur thoughts.
thanx |

| Imprressive little machine. Made in Korea. Price is right, too. I'd say give it a go. |

Have a look at the TViX series from DVICO. They're the upper end of the cost and performance spectrum "made in Korea". I've been running a 6500 since 2008, apart from a blown capacitor (a known manufacturing fault for the batch) no problems, although there hasn't been a firmware update for over a year now.
I'm dealing with mkv 1080p way beyond 20 GB, those run very smoothly.
Also have a look at the Popcorn Hour series, I think you need to order by mail though.
But from recent experience I can say that a quick trip to Hong Kong and purchase of a 120$ no-name box will get you the technical performance you need. The main differences are in the UI now, and whether you can customize it. TViX and PCH are pretty much leading the pack there. |
