I'd guess you'd have to say it in Korean.
My thing would be the price. Papa Johns already runs around 25,000. If it's more expensive than that being a "gourmet pizza" i doubt they'll do well here. |
Yeah, for the same price as regular pizzas from the larger chains (17,000-25,000) in Korea, you would be getting a pizza with pesto base, prosciutto ham, lamb sausage, roasted garlic or any other slew of gourmet toppings back in the US.
Even California Pizza Kitchen down by City Hall is pretty crappy. |

New Zealand has Dominos and Pizza Hut and Hell Pizza is way better than both of them. But it is pricey.
Their pizzas were originally a gormet style with quality toppings and their main point was great taste and lots of toppings on pizzas.
Most Kiwi's will say the Hell Pizza is the best by far.
In recent years their prices have come more in line with the major chains but their growth story was very good. They opened new stores very fast.
I have no doubt their store in Seoul will be a success it is just a case of marketing it well enough to get people in the door. |
Just to point out, Pizza Hut used to be really good, and slowly, over time, morphed into the greasy cardboard that it is today. Papa Johns in the US tastes a lot different than it does in Korea.
Couple of things to think about - this "Hell Pizza" might be awesome in NZ, but it could turn out to be the mailman's kid here in Korea. I must agree with Negative Nancy on this one. Don't go more than half mast yet. |

I'd be willing to try it out within the first three months of operation before the nagging customers get it watered down to wafers with american cheese over ketchup.
But I'm closer to Itaewon and can find decent pizza there. |

I have no idea what Hell Pizza is like, but if Maru is genuinely better then Hell Pizza must be the worst pizza chain on the face of the earth. Maru is, without a shadow of a doubt, the worst pizza place in the world. Disgusting, disgusting stuff. |

dude.. you havent tried HELL , they call it hell for a reason.. because after you eat it you feel like you died and went to HELL.. I ate some when I was in new zealand because some locals told me it's awesome stuff..
I looked at them and said.. "ohh how I pity you guys" then again they were stoners and in UNI , frozen pizza re heated 3 days later tastes better. |

Of course there will be a market 25 million people.... I mean HELLO KITTY CAFE was a huge success.
but there is so much more than just being called HELL though..
still there dark , death image might get followers. you never know..
I mean KOreans eat crap pizza everyday.. HELL might be a success just based on their interior skulls, skeletons etc.. maybe hongdae might have been a better choice.. |

Pizza Maru is some pretty gnarly stuff. What is that, green tea crust? And the sauce just sit on top of the crust, there's no blending of flavors there. Despite the fact that they bake it, it seems completely as if the crust was pre-baked and then they just slathered some nastyness on top and sprinkled and melted some grodiness over it. |

No offense meant to any New Zealanders, but I have a strict code I follow when accepting advice from people about pizza. There is an inverse relationship between your proximity to New York and Italy and your knowledge of good pizza. The further you live from either of those two locations the less you know about pizza.
Hell Pizza sounds like Papa Johns.... |

Let's wait for someone from NZ to try it and make sure it is the "real deal." If not, why bother going there? |

They usually have pretty good coupons that kinda make up for it. Like a 25,000 pizza with free cheesesticks isn't that bad. |
