Hello all. I recently got an email (which is detailed below) asking for a million won for the next six months. Basically, there was a lot of waffle about a web service portal (what ever that means) conecting English teachers to Korean learners. Can't we do that at the moment? Anyhow, please be careful and it would be good to hear your opinion of the email.

Quote:
Dear English teachers in Korea,

I am emailing you as I am looking for right people to venture with me in the English industry in Korea.

We are developing a web service portal that will connect English teachers around the world to Korean students in Korea and interact in a manner that has not been efficiently implemented to date.

We have already started the development and even in the process of pre-registration [alone], we successfully registered close to 2,000 teachers in just one months time. Because we were able to register so many teachers without our site even fully operational, we are confident that we can register much more than that on a monthly basis with the site actually running.

Unfortunately for us was that the web agency took too long to develop so we had to terminate our relationship with them and now need the funding to redevelop with another agency or make our own web development team.

Just to give you some background information:

As of now, we have an office located in Busan in the heart of the Hae-un-dae new city area (in the office buildings located right outside of Jang-san station). We also have a partner in Seoul and can meet potential partners in both cities. We are operating under a Korean business license but will have an official Korean corporation set up for this project, with Korean laws applicable to this business.

What we are looking for

We are reaching out to primarily teachers who are teaching in an institution and may contribute on a monthly basis, so with that in mind we are search for (but not limited to) individuals who:
1. Can contribute one million won (1 million Korean won) per month or more for about 6 months - total six million won
2. Has the ability to do a quality job on either the web design or the programming portion.

We are looking to start with 2~5 people who can invest (as per point 1.).

When and what type of a return on investment can be expected

Our preference is to hire and develop with our own team in our office. This will enable us to work constantly with the developers and cut the development time to about one month. If we find another web agency to develop this project then we can expect the development to take around 3 months. If we find other partners with the development skills then development will depend on the amount of time that is invested in the project by the development partners.

Marketing can start immediately after the development and income should start rolling in within a months time.

In terms of profit figures, we can only give you what kind of profits we can expect on a reasonable level with the speed of the teachers that we were able to have registered and with an estimation of what type of demand we will have from the students side. We believe can have registered tens of thousands of teachers within the first year and the same with students and over 100,000 registered within a year to two years [please keep in mind that we were able to pre-registered close to 2,000 teaches [alone] in one month by only showing a concept of what we are about to develop]. With that in mind we firmly believe that within the first few months of operation, we will be able to generate a profit of tens of thousands of dollars (US). Within a year to two years we believe we can generate over $500,000~$1,000,000US dollars.

We have already proven that we can generate a lot of teachers interest and all we have to do is do the same for the students side which we are also extremely confident with.

Please understand that we cannot fully disclose a lot of our sensitive information through this email and would like to get a chance to meet all those interested in person. We are able to meet potential partner is both Seoul and Busan. Please email us with your interest.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks & regards,

David Kim

You'd think anybody using the Internet to get funding would also have the good sense to create a brand, a recognizable ID... Spotekorea.com and Spotekorea.co.kr are unregistered domains. Spote.com is owned by a US Church. This thread is the only thing I could find related to the subject. Whoever this is, isn't even a good scammer.

May I suggest some friendly scam-baiting?
