I'd imagine that being naked on a conveyer belt that is moving you towards a big vat full of red ants that will bite you all over and crawl into every orifice whilst big angry men with sticks hit you is worse than being here.
Just off the top of my head. |

Most northern midwestern US states.
Alberta

and in no particular order. |
LOL. I laughed at that and I've never been to any of those places.
Must be bed time............ |

The longer you stay in Korea, the worse your home country becomes because employers there don't recognize international work experience and treat you as though you've been on welfare for those years.
A friend of mine in Korea recently said to me that probably the best job he can get now at home is delivering pizzas. |
Remember what I'm about to say right now. This is important. What is applicable to your friend isn't applicable to you or even most of the people on this forum.
You CAN get a good job back home, you CAN make a life outside of Korea and ESL teaching. There are hundreds of ESL teachers in Asia that had the same doubts and concerns as you. It seems to be a very pervasive thought pattern on the Korean ESL forums, but it's not apparent at all on the other forums. If anyone doubts what I'm saying here, go check for yourself on the other forums.
There are hundreds of former ESL teachers that came back from their experience abroad and became successful. Anyone on this forum can do it too, you aren't stuck in Korea. |
Absolutely. I just landed a great job and I've only been looking for 2 weeks. It just takes some patience and not giving up. A good attitude helps too. |

Seriously, counting the months left is one thing (helps to plan ahead,) but when people start saying how many weeks they have left it's another story.
A lot of us have heard them-
"I've only got 14 more weeks before I'm done!"
And my favorite the day counter-
"Only 73 days left, counting weekends and holidays that's only 51 workdays!!"
It's really time to move on if you're doing that. |
Days and weeks move too fast.
I think the only time I've counted weeks or days is when it gets to less than 2 weeks or 14 days left in a contract. The reason for that is it usually means I have to move and it is more out of "Oh my God, I ONLY have 2 weeks left...how am I going to get everything done!"
I do know that I have less than 50 teaching days left this school year, and that is sort of scary as I hope I can get everything done that I need to. It is also cool as I am eagerly anticipating my summer vacation back in NA.
I think back to the worst job I had in Korea and even that job I was willing to work longer at...it just didn't pan out. Nothing is so bad that I count down the days until "freedom"...if something was that bad, I would quit immediately and move on.
China would be awesome if not for the pollution and constant gray days and the traffic nightmares. I could put up with the traffic, but the gray...well my wife is going more nuts than me in that regard. |

| Peru pretty much tops my list as being the worst of the countries I've lived in. Korea's a cakewalk compared to Peru. |

This isn't from teaching experiences but some places that are far worse than Korea are:
Halifax, NS or any of its trashy suburbs
Industrial Cape Breton
|
Lived in both places, I can see the pros and cons of both.
I can't picture Sinchang, South Korea ranking higher than Halifax
on my places to live list though. |

Six more weeks and it's back to Cbus for me. My roots are there and I love it, but it will be awhile before I live there again. I hate missing out on time with my nephews. There's a new one for me to meet when I get there |

| Considering the general lack of aesthetic appeal and the unfriendly, racist, xenophic, and superficial attitude that pervades Korea, the only worse place I've ever been, that could rival Korea in each of those traits, is Kyrgyzstan. It was a scary place. Just think of everything I said about Korea, throw in crime and the Russian mafia and you have one of the scariest places on the planet. Korea doesn't measure up to ANY western country I've been to. |

| I'd rather not say where I'm from because I wish to remain completely anonymous, but Korea has made me fully appreciate where I'm from, and all of the wonderful and not so wonderful (but still better than Korea) places I've been. |
