when I lived in canada I always used pantene.

when I came to korea I was happy to find pantene in the stores.

I bought some and tried it but.... something just not right with it.....

maybe they use inferior ingredients here in korea.

after a few tries I threw it away and tried many more brands until I found one I was happy with called dantrol.

I'm stating my opinion. Not everything is about you.

That was actually a question about YOUR motivations. What are you trying to accomplish by stating your opinion? I believe that opinions have reference to a reality beyond themselves, and that gives me at the very least a self-consistent basis for arguing with people over opinions. But one wonders why a man who thinks its all relative would bother to start an argument; surely the main reason for arguing is to parse right from wrong. If youre just expressing yourself for the thrill of it, let me know, and from thence forth Ill treat your posts as pointless trivialities rather than serious discussion.

Like anyone else he's entitled to embarrass himself by calling a great composer "Pachelbellend". No argument there. But he's a composition major, so I expect more from him.

You expect him to share your opinion about Pachelbel.

I'm not the aggressor here. Im merely defending in absentia an exceptional composer from a rude attack. I do expect Globutron to strive for a little more, in terms of musical criticism, than vulgar puns. For starters he should be aware, unlike the target audience of a Pachelbels Greatest Hit CD, that the poor man composed more than one piece, and that much of that other stuff is more interesting from the perspective of a 21st C. student of composition.

Where is Globutron anyway? Cant he speak for himself?

Constantly assaulting our ears"? Please. If only.

Amazon has two separate full-length CDs entitled "Pachelbel's Greatest Hit", emphasis on the singular. If there were some kind of statistics on most heard music, I'd bet money it'd be damn near the top. I've heard a Family Mart's doorbell squawk it out! "Constantly" is only just barely a hyperbole.

I personally havent heard it for a long time, so our conflicting anecdotes cancel themselves out. Lets quit this particular avenue of discussion, its leading nowhere even faster than the others.

Put me down with Koveras as someone who believes in the idea of 'right opinion.' Also, I appreciate that Koveras admits that he cares about the ideas he argues on here, even if he professes not to care even a little about what people on this board think of him personally (I understand his distinction, but even on that latter point I suspect he exaggerates).

Opinion can, and should be based on fact, but that doesn't make the opinion fact.

Yes, Globutron wasn't exactly eloquent in his derision, but what was Koveras' accusation that it was Glob's fault Pachelbel is only remembered for one repetitive, overplayed ditty based on? He's demanding more justification for Glob's opinion than he's prepared to offer for his own.

It's featured heavily in the ad this thread is about...

It's also the single piece featured on two separate full length CDs and has been copied and ripped off hundreds, if not thousands of times. The Beatles' "Let it Be" uses the same chord progression. It may be less interesting than some of his other works. It's certainly the most influential. And yes, this part of the discussion is going nowhere.

Heh, I'm flattered I seem to be the centre of this conversation...

If you know me by now you should know I'm quite immature in displaying my opinions, and quite frankly, pachelbellend is hilarious.

I am very happy to say that the canon is a beautiful piece of music, and the most lasting one hit wonder the world has ever offered. The chord progression is in every song that has been written since in all genres.

However, it's simply not what I go for in music. It makes me ill to endure it. I have explored his music, I was obligated to, as indeed I am a music major. I respect it as I respect Bach. But when people say it is better than modern music, it opens up the flood gates and I just can't accept that stupid 'opinion'.

Even though I'm an UQB supporter in that there is no right opinion, this is an exception.

Actually I mentioned in another thread that I've become very contradictory about all my own thoughts as of late, and I'm already arguing about that so I'll just quit while I'm ahead.

Heres a different take on the whole idea of canons in D.

Good lord, I can't imagine hearing Canon on a destroyed and rebuilt-using-scotch tape violin.

P.S. How is there still people who haven't heard that Pachebel rant before? I'm almost as sick of seeing that video brought up every time I see someone talking about Canon as I am of the song itself.
