Is the water warmer in Jeju than in Busan? Are neither ever warm? Just curious. |

They're very warm. But, they're also very crowded.
I wouldn't want to be there.
Yellowtubes and high heels in the sand.
Just youtube search it. Go to the Philippines. You'll spend
just as much money in both places. |

It get stupidly hot on the south coast & in Busan. Over 30 on a lot of days in August. The beaches are busy but there are lots of areas along the coast that aren't as packed as Busan - check out the islands attached to the mainland. |

Hahaha, sorry I couldn't resist. Pretty stupid thing to say all the same. |

East coast (Sea of Japan ) remains pretty nippy, even in August-- it's really deep. A couple of meters in (past the yellow tubes), and you can't stand/walk. South and west are pretty warm, much shallower, but also a problem when the tides go out-- There's almost no water, or it's knee-high at best, for quite some distance. |

There are nice Jeju beaches that are virtually empty come August, especially in the southeast. Koreans tend to congregate on a few hyped beaches, actually like crowds and sticking together, leaving some real gems uncrowded, all the better for the few of us who scour the island for them. PM me for details when you're set to arrive.

Attached by bridge: Geoje Island, Namhae Island, Wando and Jindo, all with beaches worth visiting for various reasons. |

I just remember the one time I went swimming at Haeundae was at the start of July a few years ago. It was frickin' freezing. Couldn't believe the beach could be that cold in summer. |

Yeah, Louis VI covered it - I obviously didn't mean 'attached to the mainland by land'. Bridges exist in Korea, surprise!
I'm personally partial to Namhae, highly recommend it to everyone! |

I'll have to check out some, if not all of the islands then. I wasn't sure if they would really be worth it, but I'm a sucker for a warm beach any day. |

I wouldn't say the water temperatures rises that much (in Busan anyway) even if the weather is 32 degrees/90F and high humidity every day...I went to a few of the Busan / Ulsan beaches last summer and it was like swimming in ice water at times.
Geoje island was not bad though. |

I like the small islands on the Yellow Sea, off the coast of Incheon. You don't want to go into the water around Oido or Daebu-do, but the further you get from mainland, the cleaner the water will be.
Keep in mind that although the maximum temperatures are already high in June, the nights are still cool. The real beach season is when the low temperatures are around 25 Celsius degrees. During that period, the water should be warm enough for swimming pretty much all around the peninsula. |

The sea off the east coast of Korea gets very deep not far from shore, so of course the water is cooler. The south coast has warmer water, the southeast coast the warmest in my many experiences over nearly a decade of summer beach bummin' on the peninsula. |
