Historically, the only third party to bump off a major party in the US was when the Republicans knocked off the Whigs.
It happened at a time when the Whigs were already dying.
Contemporary opinions suggest that we should have more than the two-party stranglehold we have, but how?
1) Unfreeze the size of the House of Representatives
Were you told in civics class that the House grows with population?
Has anyone pointed out that it doesn't?
2) Deregulate business so that it can lift us out of the socialist abyss.
I kind of like this. Just like I enjoy places like Staples Stadium, the Microsoft party's confrontations with Google on the Senate floor would be a hoot.

Repeal the 17th amendment. Plenty of states have non partisan/multiple party legislatures. Letting them appoint the senators (as was originally intended) would lead to more small parties having a shot, and make spending on a senate campaign a moot point. |
