Hey
I got a cheap flight to Cebu; but I've heard its less than awesome. I've got about 2 weeks before I need to be back in Cebu to fly back.
I don't dive. The beach isnt my main concern. I really want to rent a motorcycle and look at stuff....
Anyone got advice they can give me? (It'll be august... so rain probably) |

I'm in Cebu right now. Do NOT rent a motorcycle in the city. The driving here is worse than Korea. I just saw a fatal motorcycle accident 2 nights ago. If you want to rent a bike, jump on a ferry and go to Bantayan, Bohol, or Malapascua. If you want to stay on Cebu take a bus down to Moalboal.
P.S. The rainy season is different here, it's ending right now. |

Island hopping.
Catch a v-hire and head around the island.
Catch a ferry and go over to Bohol and repeat.
From Bohol you can catch a ferry to Leyte.
Work your way south, over to Camiguin and back to Cebu.
Lots to see and do.
Rain won't be bad (typically an afternoon shower but NOT days-on-end rain).
Ferries are cheap p200-400.
V-hires are also cheap (p100-300 between major towns).
Accomodations are cheap (p600-1200 for the average pension house).
Pack light and enjoy your trip.

Yep, take a ferry to Bohol.
The main city there is Tagbilaran. You can check out the Chocolate Hills, as well as old catholic churches from back in the Spanish days.
The island leads its self well to motorcycle exploration. |

Any idea how far Bohol is from Bantayan? Also, is there a direct ferry that will take you between both areas. I've searched a bit online and havent found anything concrete yet |

Looking from California they may seem close but Bantayan is off the north-west coast of Cebu Island (about 100 miles northwest of Cebu city) and Bohol is east of Cebu island (about 30-40 miles east of Cebu city as the dolphin swims).
There is NO direct connection between Bantayan and Bohol unless you want to hire a pump-boat for the day to take you from one to the other (about 12 hours by boat).

Appreciate it. I'm probably going to be staying in Bantayan for a week...Bohol looks awesome, is it worth the time to get outta Bantayan for a day or two and check it out? |

Bohol is pretty cool (I have 5 hectares with a house there).
It is worth a trip all on it's own.
It is NOT worth trying to cram the travel time to get there from Banrayan for a day or 2 (you spend more time on the road/boat than you will on the island).
Save it for your next trip or when you have a week or 3 to spare.

If I remember right, it would be a couple hours from ferry back to Cebu City. Than, get off the ferry to go to the bus terminal. Take a bus all the way up to the top of Cebu Island - takes a LONG time...forget the exact amount of hours - seems like half day in itself though? Than take another ferry to Bantayan Island from the northern tip of Cebu Island, which are only available at select times, and often delayed. Another few hours on that ferry, but expect major delays for that one.
In short, it isn't easy or convenient. I quite liked Bantayan Island though, but I doubt if I'd go a second time, just because of how much more difficult it is to get there, than it is to get to Bohol from Cebu City. |

You wouldn't be able to get from Bantayan to Bohol and back in a day or two.
Unfortunately.
However, you'll enjoy Bantayan for itself. If you really wanted to do another island, Malapascua is also off the tip of the top of Cebu Island.
The biggest problem I remember with Bantayan is that it wasn't an easy island to just quickly get off and on. |

Thanks to the tips here, it looks like I'm traveling down Palawan for about 10 days then likely flying over to Cebu and exploring that and Bohol for another 5 days. I expect ATMs and credit cards would be somewhat common in Cebu City at least, but how does it look for the tourist areas in Palawan? |

Tagbilaran on Bohol has lots of ATMs that do accept foreign cards.
Most other towns on the island do NOT have ATMs that accept other cards.
In the major towns on Palawan you will find ATMs but whether or not they are working / have cash / have network connectivity when you need it is hit and miss. ALWAYS make sure you have $100-200 tucked away for those days when you can't access any money.
Oh, and if you are using a Korean ATM card and have not used it abroad before, do NOT depend on it as your only source of funds. You have about a 50% chance that it will NOT work abroad if you have not confirmed by prior use abroad that it works outside of Korea.

If you have a KEB card, it DOES work in the Philippines. |

Thanks for the info. I'll be bringing my KEB ATM card which has worked outside of Korea as well as an ATM card from home.
Another question: how common is it to pay for travel agents and accommodation by foreign credit card in Palawan and Cebu? I've done it before in Manila and maybe Boracay but not elsewhere in the Philippines. |
