| Haven't had one in years. What do you recommend to get in the pharmacy? |

| If you go to a pharmacy and point at the cold sore the pharmacist will get what you mean and give you an ointment that works pretty well. I have had the same problem a few times and always got the same stuff regardless of the pharmacy of whether I see a doctor first. The ointment they give you will work better than stuff like Carmax so make the effort. My doctor once prescribed medication for shingles which seemed to help a little. |

| Screw the ointment. Get a Q-tip and dip it in some bleach and keep it pressed to the area for 30 sec. to a minute. Do it again an hour later. I did it once and it immediately receded and didn't even come out. It's best to do it when it starts tingling though, if it already pussed up it's probably too late. |

I wouldn't go to a pharmacy.
I would pick up Lysine...or order it online...iherb.com is useful for things like that.
If you are prone to cold sores, it is good to have a supply of lysine around...it's cheap but very effective. |

Over-the-counter anti-viral cold sore creams can help the cold sore clear up more quickly, particularly if applied when you first notice symptoms, such as a tingling sensation around your lips. Don't share cold sore creams with anyone else.
Over-the-counter creams and liquids can ease irritation once the cold sore has developed.
