Can anyone tell me how to get there from off-base? What should I tell the taxi driver? Which gate to I go to? Etc. |

Where are you catching a taxi from? If you are going from Seoul Station or Yongsan Station most taxi drivers know "Yongsan Garrison" and some know the gate numbers as well. I believe gate #5 is the closest to the Dragon Hill Lodge.
Do you have someone to escort you on base or are you military yourself? The taxi cannot just drive you to the Dragon Hill. |

The Dragon Hill Lodge is close to the Dragon Hill Gate (that's the new name for Gate 10). Just tell the taxi driver "Yongsan Base, Gate 10." If your Korean's good enough (and I'm not saying mine's great or this is perfect; just that it works), you can say, "용산미군부대, 십대문에 갑니다." (I don't remember if the gate's actually called 대문 or just 문.) When you check into Dragon Hill, they'll give you a key card that has the location listed in English and Korean on the back of the card. Be sure to keep that with you during your stay, especially if you're going off base and need to take a cab back.
You can get signed onto the base at Gate 5 or Gate 10. If you're driving your own car onto the base and want to sign guests in at the same time you drive onto the base, then you must use Gate 17. When I do drive to Seoul, I avoid the hassle by parking my car in the Dragon Hill Lodge parking lot, walk the couple of hundred feet to Gate 10, meet my guests there, then sign them in. After that, we walk to my car. Gate 10's open 24 hours and I don't have to drive clear around the district or put up with that hideous traffic to get to Gate 17. |
