This is ugly. You drive me to drink. If you think he is such a wimp, how about you demonstrate against an entire culture? Because that is easy, eh?
Shooting people is so much fun, right? The way their faces revert into little bits of flesh and bone? It's fun! One moment you have an expression, the next you have some kind of Salisbury steak. That is FUN. It's a goddamn gas. And guns are not even all that loud when they fire next to your ear?
I spend every day wondering how in the good heck we survived as a species this far. Hanging by a spittle thread says I. Aigoo. |

The guy is courageous and an activist. He is intelligent and believes in civil liberties. A guy like this will fight for peoples rights one day.
I mean look, in high school he sues the school and wins. 25 million
now he refuses to go into the military. I agree with him. military should be optional. |

| Korea is in a tough neighborhood. Doing away with conscription seems a bad idea. They might end up being conscripted by the Chinese military otherwise. |

| If Korea does away with conscription..they won't have a military. My guess is they won't/can't make the military an attractive long-term career in order to keep recruitment numbers up. |

I admire the guy for standing up to the government. I don't think that conscription will be ended but I do see the collapse of the North soon. yeah and alternative service should be allowed.
China thinks it is capable of keeping peace in the region, even forcing it's will on Russia and Japan. Bad Bad idea!! |

Military service is the duty of every South Korean man. If he does not serve he will be punished. Anyone who follows this young man's decision will receive the same punishment. The government takes this sort of behavior very seriously.
It's more than just going to prison. There are also many long term consequences of not serving. |

North Korea's military numbers are known to be exaggerated, considering how every male under the age of 35 and over the age of 16 is technically considered to be part of their passive military.
After that, even if they do round up their troops, they run out of gas once they get to the DMZ.
Even the few who make it to Seoul see the prosperity and defect to the South.
My prediction for the war between the North and South would look a little like the graphic that shows Napoleon's march to and from Moscow (look it up, it's fascinating). Completely self-defeating. |

Bingo.
Also, the Seoul government and military spending on personnel is rather cheap. It's not gonna be like the US mil. where you get free college and other huge perks. |

Just my guess but I think the biggest worry of those in charge of the north is the day when the people have had enough. The key is keeping the military happy which is probably becoming harder with limited resources.
At some point the lies they tell tell the people will come back against them. I doubt the people believe it anymore.
If a war ever happens its because the powers that be need one to stay legitimate and get everyone's mines off their own starving bellies.
Also, China won't let it happen. A war will only bring give the U.S. and its allies a reason to have an even bigger military in the region. Its the last thing China wants. NK won't go to war without China's backing. NK will lose and a united Korea will be a republic not communist and China is loathe to have an American freindly republic on its border. |
