Either way, Discovery Channel Korea isn't as good as the regular Discovery Channel. I don't care about people sitting on the floor, screaming and eating. I discovered that within the first hour I was in Korea.

You can check yourself whether Discovery Channel Asia is better with the link below:

http://www.yourdiscovery.com/tv-schedule/?type=day&country_code=SG

Quite frankly, the channel, Korean or not, has a bunch of programs I have absolutely no interest in like American Choppers, Dirty Jobs and Mythbusters.

If you have Skylife, you can also get Discovery HD.

Nope, it WAS Discovery Channel Asia. Not it's been changed and features Korean programming but still has the Discovery Channel prime time-type lineup at night.

You sure it's not National Geographic you're talking about? I'm looking at the listings for Discovery Channel Asia and it seems like the same for Discovery Channel Korea.

positive

EVERYTHING is in English with Korean subtitles so there's no language barrier.

Everything is not in English, I have the channel and I have seen for myself what is different which is why I chose to post in this thread.

So which programs have no English in them? I have yet to see that but then again, I don't watch the channel much because of the dull programs.

Everything from midnight to 5 or 6 am is Korean.

I only really care about those hours between about midnight and 2. The bigger issue is that even when it is in English, the programming is not the same. While they might be showing the same programs as the previous incarnation, they are showing seasons/episodes that we've already seen over the past year or so.

They used to show cool shows like I Almost Got Away With It and I Shouldn't Be Alive during the later hours. I would even watch the ghost shows before the crap they have on now!

Korea talks about being a hub of Asia and yet the channel offerings here suck beyond belief compared to Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.

I'm hoping the Biography channels comes to Korea but well, I did see one episode about Mao Zedong's wife and China probably would disagree with much of the footage.

I've noticed that Discovery Channel is different depending on how you get it. I get it via Skylife and EVERY PROGRAM is in English. I have seen Discovery Channel Korea on cable and that seems to be different to what I have.

it's repeats most of the time anyway.

You can a decent amount of recent ones from here via stream

Another good site for documentary material is

www.topdocumentaryfilms.com

Everything is streamed (not in HD) but the selection is impressive and in many genres.

This has got me pissed off, too.

When they made the change-over they ran "PSAs" from local business people and government officals saying how the change would be a great way to promote Korea. Isn't that what Arirang is about? And the English translations were as bad as what you find on Arirang.

Another pisser is the commercials they run now. Just as on other Korean channels that boost the volume when it cuts to the ads. And we get to see ads about urinary tract problems and electronic cigarretes. On Discovery Channel.

I watched about five minutes (couldn't take anymore) of a show where the camera followed a group of obnoxious English teachers on a scavenger hunt around Itaewon, where the women kept asking ajoshis for kisses (for the hunt). Kerist!

About 4 or 5 months ago, i remember seeing one of the discovery self publicity adverts (you know, "discovery channel teaches you about all this cool stuff, arent we awesome!") only it was a korean politician.

I forget his exact words, but it was something along the lines of "discovery channel teaches you all about this cool stuff, isnt it awesome, but this is korea so we look forward to more programmes about how awesome korea is".

I DO remember thinking "howodd, that sounds like an implied threat?"

And sure enough, a few months later and discovery has all these REALLY BORING everyday life with abandoned grannies crying about how they feel abanodned by their sons/daughters and grandkids when all the young people left their village and how they're getting too old for this, and they wonder if they can go on with all these bills, and all the misery of doing such hard work and living in pain and squalor.

That being said, discovery is pure schlock anyway

This channel now sucks ass. They were showing season 1 or 2 of Deadliest Catch last night. WTF? There is absolutely zero new material, aside from watching a Korean farmer pick vegetables. oooh aaah.

While I'm at it, MBC ESPN sucks too.

Discovery Channel has a few good shows like CI and a few others. I also have Discovery HD but that channel offers absolutely nothing.

It's also MBC Sports +, NOT MBC ESPN, as ESPN has joined forces with SBS Sports. MBC Sports + does carry Champions League soccer, as does Sky EN and HD ONE.

I'm thinking Skylife will add a few more channels soon since it plans to have 15 HD channels (it has 85 now) to its lineup by year's end.
