Yep I have 40 minute classes. As to if they count as a hour pay wise - never been over my time!

A little more detail - is this in relation to pay or work hours?

For experience, I have done classes for 17 and 21 minutes. We would go to like 14 classes a day. About 5 of them were these short classes to just practice speaking and the chapter the Korean teachers were doing with the students. It was also meant as a way to advertise the class to parents, telling them their kids would talk to a native speaker every day. Everything was planned out by the Korean teacher, and some stayed in the class to help out. Other teachers just sat in the corner and corrected homework. The downside is that I didn't get much freedom to teach what I wanted.

For pay, it depends on workload. I did 30 minute classes at a GnB school. This was actually ideal for the students. The school also taught math, so the students would take a test and be put in a high or low level class based on their test results. Then, I would teach the same groups in English. For younger students this worked out. For the older students it didn't matter, I basically had a mixed class from 6th grade on up. So, I think it is good for elementary school students, but for older students they should have the full 45 to 60 minute classes.

I teach high school students now in China, and 40 minute classes for 40+ students in a class is not enough at all. There is absolutely no point in teaching less than 40 with them.
