|
|
I am an American working here in Seoul, and my Filipina wife is here on a spouse visa. She volunteers weekly as an English teacher for disadvantaged Korean kids at the Seoul Global Center.
She has a BA in English education from a teachers university in the Philippines, and she has passed the national teacher's exam there. However, she can't get an E2 language teacher visa because of the Korean visa laws.
I know that most (all?) of the international schools here in Korea hire only people who are licensed teachers in their home country. Are any of you aware of any schools here that will hire a licensed Filipina English teacher?
Thanks. |

Under current E-2 visa rules, she would not be able to obtain one since she is not from one of the follow:
Canada | U.S.A | U.K. | Ireland | Australia | New Zealand | South Africa
BS, but fact here in korea. |

I know of a rural area Public School that has hired an Indian. She can contact EPIK and ask about any rural areas. But the catch is you have to both go work in the countryside. |

I met a filipina lady teacher on Geoje last year. She was working for EPIK and they even got her a car for her schools because of the distance she had to travel.
I also new another filipina teaching in a Hagwon in Ulsan.
So it must be doable somehow |

Yes, do-able if married to a Korean (I'm not) regardless of undergraduate major. Also do-able if she already had her master's (working on it, but not in hand). |

Forget it! She can work illegaly, but no one is going to sponsor a filipina. The only way around it is to marry a korean. Korea and India have a trade agreement but it hasnt panned out with the Philippines yet to allow them to teach here. Most of it due to the filipino embassy here not moving on helping their citizens work here. |

Why would Korea hire a second tongue teacher from the Philippines when there are Korean teachers doing the same job here already? |

With the prevalence of English in the Philippines, Filipinos aren't necessarily second-language speakers. |

Wasn't there some sort of program for people who spoke English from India, the Phils, etc? What happened to that?
Might have been for out-of-Seoul schools, though. |
