There are checks and balances already in place-- it happened on this very site, actually. And when people complain or talk about doing runners, it's usually quite possible to separate the people in really awful situations (cobradiner) from those who don't have it so bad (marsavalache).
And then there was that drama a few weeks ago about the recruiter who someone had a run in with-- one person was bashing him, but then several others chimed in to say he really wasn't so bad.
It's worth it to save a lot of hassle, I think... |

I have commented on this before hand.

The problem is most people are lazy and stupid. Just take a look at some of the posts here. Somebody has a problem - half the people will write some decent but still lacking in details post. The other half write two sentences wanting somebody to solve their problem for them. We the reader have to get all the details needed with just provided. Any blacklist site would end up a mash of "Jungchul Busan Sucks" or Wonderland Seoul Boss ripped me off and no details. People do not want to go to a site and spend 10 minutes or more writing about their past schools. You would be lucky to get a minute in this day and age of a vapidness with facebook and twitter.
Timing - I can find old blacklists and anything over 3 or 4 years I might just ignore because it does not really useful anymore. Schools change, disappear, move, etc.
Details - Looking at old lists. Half them sucked because they gave no details of why the school is bad. Lots of generalities boss ripped me off or school apartment was dirty but not story or details. Actually a good chunk was just some pissed of person writing in caps.
Numbers - If you read my old link I comment on this. Next weekend when you go to the bar ask your friends how many people are on eslcafe. How many of them post often. Who reads it more then once a month. If you are lucky you will get one person out of 100 who is a regular here. You might get 5 people who once in a while look here. So take that with a blacklist would be one out of a thousand people in Korea. Also a blacklist site is not a place people will hangout or check I have a job now why do I need to visit it. People want to google and go. A blacklist site will have tonnes of people wanting to know and very very very few people who will contribute.
School Numbers - There a tonnes of schools here in Korea. Even if we where lucky to get every one who is one ESL to contribute you would end up with a list of maybe 500 schools. What about the other 9500 schools. Those change all the time too.
Legal - This country is weird with libel laws. Ya a site based in Brazil or wherever might be out of jurisdiction but teacher might not be. Some teachers should be careful about posting if they want to to continue to work in Korea. A boss could find out and see a post and then sue. But you say I did not use my real name. Process of elimination - school has so many teacher, so many got fired, so thus they can find out who wrote a message. Or even the general site can be threatened with a lawsuit. Most places will drop what is needed then to deal with legal issues. So some people will not post to prevent legal and general hassles. I want a job but me writing about my old school could prevent me from getting a future one.
The truth - To every story there are three sides. Your side my side and the truth. Also the gray areas. Yes a school fired somebody at 11 months and that person can write a bad review of the school with their side. But what if the truth is the teacher was lazy, hit a student too hard, came to school hungover, the school had enough. A school that can get blacklisted might just actually be a good school or even just OK.
In the end a blacklist site needs more then just a domain name, a good blog program and a logo. It needs content and substance and your are not going to get it.
