Dude, my coworkers HAVE taken days off because they were sick. I had to cover their classes. The only difference is they took off on a Tuesday and they're on their second contract with the school. You're obviously not helpful so quit posting obnoxious responses and pester a different thread. |

I'm not asking for sympathy. It's not a two wrongs make a right situation too. What are the two wrongs? My co-workers were sick so they took a sick day. If anything I am obviously wrong if I use a sick day on a non-sick day, but that would be my choice.

| Are you another kid who has come here having never had a proper job in your life? You want a day off? Take it as a holiday, unpaid if you have to, don't knowingly screw people over. Your co-workers were sick, they used their sick days BECAUSE THEY WERE SICK, you are the teacher not the student, your days of pretending to be sick to take a day off school should have finished when you were around 12. Grow up and act like an adult with an adults job. |

Nice assumption, but it's wrong across the board. Also, I would hardly classify a hagwon that is a self-proclaimed business before educational service as a proper job. I mean any "school" that distorts the truth about student reports and progress - among many other things - simply for customer retention acts more like a Ponzi scheme then an actual place for learning. Unfortunately, this is the world of hagwons.
Secondly, I cannot take it as a holiday. My holidays are dictated by my employer and I asked when I first began if I could take a holiday when I wanted; the response was absolutely not. How do I know my co-workers were sick though? It's not far-fetched for them to have done the same thing without even knowing. |

No-one is making you work for them. You don't like their employment conditions? Then hand in your notice and leave. I used to work a job which involved working major public holidays including Christmas day, did I like it? No, I hated it, however that was my job so I accepted it and got on with it |

You're right, businesses get what they pay for. If they cut corners with pay, recruitment procedures, staff conditions and the like, they should be factoring in staff absenteeism as an inevitable by product of this practice. If you want to employ young people just out of Uni with no working experience on the cheap, you take the losses that go with this into account when you do your business plan. That doesn't mean I have any sympathy for the worker who takes a sickie and leaves their colleague to cover for them. They are simply scum. Sub-human scum.

Really? You know it's really easy to post something to a forum. I posted this to ask people who would provide positive responses; clearly, a select few had to voice their opinion on how wrong I am because they like the satisfaction it gives them. Why else would you be so compelled to post in a thread that doesn't care for your opinion?
I came here after being a CPA in the United States so I know more than anyone what it's like to work your ass off. Bottom line, this is my last opportunity to live in another country and experience a different culture before I settle back into my career and start a family. I simply want to go to Jeju Island for 2 full days instead of 1.5 while my girlfriend is visiting for a brief period. I don't hate my job. I want one day. Feel free to continue ripping me, but I'm done with this. I've talked to enough people to realize that you few commenting negatively are exactly that: the few. |

What kind of positive responses were you looking for? Did you want someone to tell you to stuff some pillows in your bed so it looked like you were sleeping and everything would be fine? |

The above posts are why many say they don't bother posting on Daves.
I might have read it wrong, but didn't he say that he is not allowed sick days by his Boss?
If so, then he is screwed anyway, so he fucks up, gets fired and scores a better job.
Personally, the kind of job that doesn't allow you sick days or determines your holidays is a scummy job anyway, so what do you really have to lose.
Look for a new job, ask an old timer about the contracts that they offer and if he goes white and says you couldn't pay him enough to take the job then drop it.
I turned down 3 schools with bad contracts or bosses who didn't seem on the ball and I am now in a decent school (or at least so far), they are out there.
Dont take the first job offered if you are a noobie and you wont be screwed over as much or at least I wont be by Bosses thinking crap jobs are normal. |

I'm in full agreement. I agree with the specifics that you for one took on board. I think also in the wider sense that the OP as a CPA has in consequence a confidence and his lack of fear has opened what is really a can of worms.
What has been bothering me of late, well really for some time is how newcomers get berated, scorned, badgered, no punches held and then they disappear for good, forever disenchanted with Daves. |
