So it can provide jobs to ex-English teachers like me who need work! I worked for one of the major retail preparers again this year and it sucked.

Angry people coming in to get big refunds because of the Earned Income Tax Credit and College Tuition Credit schemes.

A bunch of low-lifes really.

And although I am a paid preparer , registered with the IRS and have responsibilities, all a customer has to do is call customer service and complain about how I handled the situation when in many situations I suspect fraud.

But they are "the customer" , making big bucks for the franchise owner.

My answer to the OP is that it is not that complicated really, and the success many self -service online companies attest to that.
