Good lord, c'mon people...get some street smarts. No, there is nothing that they can do to you. If you are out of Korea, they can't do jack squat. They can't collect jack squat. Yeah, they can threaten you, but that is the extent of that. Even if you were in Korea and they threatened to sue you, they wouldn't. Why? Because it is quite costly and puts them in the spotlight and they don't want to be associated with anything negative. Don't be so naive. They can't do anything to you. They also probably told you that Interpol will get involved, right? Stop worrying. Move on with your life.

For one horrific moment I thought you were going to suggest that they take a drink, drown their sorrows.

But you didn't, so all's well.

Here's a short list of some people who might help your creepy hagwon owner:

The Committee
The Initiative
Section 31
The Millenium Group

And should you need protection from the above, you might appeal to one of the following:

The World Security Bureau
INTERSECT
CONTROL
Special Unit 2

Best if luck!

It takes balls to move to Korea, it takes balls to run. Know that you've got twice as many balls (4?) than most people.

They can't press charges even if you were still in Korea. You did nothing criminal and in fact nothing other than exercise your right to quit a job (guaranteed under the labor standards act).

There is NOTHING they can do other than cry into their soju, make life rough for your replacement and complain to their hagwan association buddies that you were so bad to them after they treated you so well.

Sleep well and enjoy the rest of your life.

I don't agree. Legally, there's nothing much they can do, but there's a little thing called the internet which could make things difficult.

I don't know about you, but I certainly wouldn't like to google myself and find a photo of me and a blurb about how deceitful and untrustworthy I am and how I did a runner, and warning any future employers to be very careful of you.
These kind of things seem to have a way of coming back to bite you on the butt. Others may disagree, but it's a possibility and therefore something to keep in mind, even if they weren't fair to you in the first place.

Anyone could put a photo of you online and post crap. That is what the Internet is for. Besides, unless the OP plans to work in Korea, it all is moot. Hell, even if he/she comes back to Korea, your employer won't care. All they want is a warm body to occupy a space and make them money. They could care less if you ran from your last school. I once ran from a school and I could have cared less what they said about me because it didn't matter. My new school didn't care. If you live your life worrying about what people on the Internet say about you, then I would probably think you are paranoid.
