Iphone 3GS's are not sold unlocked. You need KT to send a signal to your phone to unlock it.

If that is the case with Iphone 4s, what is keeping people from signing the contract and just leaving the country with the phone? Other than morals of course.

Actually iPhone 4s are locked, but KT will unlock if you fax a copy of your flight ticket, which must be a round trip back to Korea. Phone the English speaking helpline to sort this out.

man did they give me the run around this morning. I think I talked to about six different people, all of whom requested the same information over and over until the issue only got half resolved.

Now my GF has to call from SA to confirm, then they are going to call me back and then I have to fax them the Eticket.

I really wish the two representatives that I talked to last week would have said that they needed more information to unlock the phone. Direct quote from two different people at KT last week, "Oh no, we don't need anything else, the phone will be unlocked for use in SA."

I swear, it doesnt matter what country you are in, people who work for cell phone carriers in their call centers must be some of the most unorganized and uninformed people in the world.

I used mine in Thailand and Japan as is, no sim card-swapping.

It's not cheap, I had to pay an extra 100,000 Won for about one weeks roaming charges in the US. I didn't even use the phone that much, only to access the internet a couple of times using 3G.
Next time I travel, I will make sure to have my phone unlocked before I leave.
