So I heard back from my recruiter today about my application to EPIK. I was expecting to hear about my interview date/time and instead I was told that my application was rejected and neither EPIK nor my recruiter would tell me why. I suspect is it because I am too qualified. I have a year teaching public school elsewhere in Asia and a 120 hour TEFL certificate, so I qualify for a higher income bracket.
I'm bummed about this latest development, but never the less am still interested in heading to Korea to teach, preferable at a public school. I've been in touch with my recruiter about other opportunities so I'm somewhat hopeful that I will be heading to Korea by the end of the summer.
Has anyone else been rejected by EPIK? |

Its good you got rejected earlier rather than later. There's still some time to line up other jobs. Try GEPIK, schools hire directly. And if your that experienced, try aiming for the Foreign Language High Schools. They generally hire directly too, they look for more qualified people than the run of the mill dirt cheap foreign teacher who has no idea what they're doing |

GEPIKers are moving to EPIK as GEPIKers are told that GPOE is not going to renew their contracts. |

I'm looking into GEPIK as an option and researching other public school teaching opportunities, preferably in the greater Seoul area. Thanks for the tip about going straight to the school to apply rather than through a program or recruiter. Hopefully I will have better luck with my future applications.
Thankfully, I have all my documents in order and will be ready to go at the end of the summer, I just need to find at a stable, moderately well paying job with non-sucky hours that does not consist of babysitting small children! |

I remember when getting an EPIK gig was the easiest thing in the world. |

If you get rejected by GEPIK hit the recruiters. Actually I would hit the recruiters right now. There are quite a few good schools in Chungnam and other areas that don't use EPIK or GEPIK, they only use recruiters. Because you've been rejected by EPIK make sure that you don't use a recruiter that recruits for EPIK, you don't want to waste time and create any kind of harmful interactions with an EPIK recruiter. Also try Japan, if you're under 35 try the JET program, they are taking applications in September. With the exception of JET don't try to work for a Japanese company that requires you to interview personally in a large city. That is total crap, you spend a lot of money traveling and sleeping and find out that there are 10 people trying out for the 2 positions available. Not worth it. |

Thanks for everyones suggestions and advice. My busy applying for GEPIK, other public schools and I'm working with a recruiter to see what private school options are out there. It's good to know that there are so many opportunities out there! |
