I don't know about you guys, but I think only a "gigantic *beep*" would be worried about the deterioration of society because of both genders making their own choices in life.
If women with careers, inventions by those with high estrogen, and lady politicians have you in such a worry, may I suggest you curl up one night with some chocolate and a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul and have yourself a good cry? It's a scary world sweeties; sometimes you just need to let it all out. |

This quote is 150% winning.

A man wrote Chick Soup for the Soul and also invented chocolate.

I probably shouldn't waste my time dealing with tiny intellects such as yourself.
I really don't give a crap what people do to be completely honest. But I still know what really goes on in life. This is reality. Some situations aren't sustainable. There are people like you who just watch life go by because you don't have a clue about why things happen. The only thing you offer up in life is, "Don't judge" while you live blissfully and ignorantly and get surprised by things the financial shock of 08/09.
The reality is that a person like you is going to be broke by the time you retire because you don't know anything or why anything works the way it does. You'll live in some country full of old people and no working generation to support welfare/pension of the old people (like yourself in 30 years) that need it. You'll wonder what happened, but you'll probably never know.
A person like you probably doesn't know why so many countries are desperately trying to get their women to have more children right now so that the country doesn't fall apart in a generations time.
All you offer up is "people should live their own lives" as if this is some brilliant, unique shit that you came up with. |

Whenever I get frustrated, I like to think up dire and fantastical predictions about the future of my enemies. Imagining the suffering of people that I hate is part of being a rational, well-balanced individual.
And everyone knows that women caused the crash of 2008... it's so like them! |

Never implied that. I was just talking about people who are clueless about everything. |

oh boy, dealing with a doomsday-predicting libertarian self-styled ubermensch here.
If only women could all just go back to liking rape like Ayn... that would've prevented those (predominately male) bankers and financial professionals screwing things up in 08!
And just for fun... http://www.factmonster.com/ipka/A0768070.html
not bad for a group that had been denied educational opportunities, property ownership, and civic opportunities for centuries. |

Goodness. High number of misogynists on Dave's. Stop the presses. Whodathunkit.
Thank you for the advice, Kuros, ESL_Milk, NYC_Gal, Fox, and anyone else I missed. Mostly I was worried over whether this was subtle venom or benevolent sexism. Glad to hear that the general opinion is that it's the latter.
Things with the supervisor were patched over pretty quick - I said it was probably cultural, gave the example of my hardcore democrat mother and hardcore republican step-father, and we were joking during the rest of the day about other things.
Definitely not planning on outting myself, though the girlfriend and I have previously considered regretfully resigning on account of lesbianism. It's that kind of business.
Thanks again, folks! Well, some of you. |

Incognito Girlfriend chiming in here to say, all those so concerned for our delicate feminine presence being crushed by the lack of a man through which to calibrate our very world view -
No worries. We got the man thing covered.
I mean, he's small and fluffy and we neutered him that one time, but he got over it pretty quick.
The cat's got boy cred and I'm pretty butch, so I figure between us we're one whole guy, right? |

leave it to a guy named 'meth' to turn this into a sexist rant. another colorful day at dave's indeed
as for you lesbian posters, i have a solemn request. i have no complaints if you're truly butch but if not(hot), could you please stop touching each other in the public? it's sooo distractive. one time, at an upscale restaurant back home... anyways, that imagery is still stuck in my head along with my wonderment at god's mischievous ways. |

My God Meth. I think this is what happens when you hate-monger at a computer for 500 hours a month, your testosterone accumulates in the fingers and you don't engineer a magnificent idea, you F****** RAGE.
I remember being in Latvia and getting drunk with an older German man who told me he was there to find a wife, and decried the "emancipation" of German women. He said (though only slightly less pejoratively) the exact same thing.
I won't argue that some of the points you made may be legitimate, but to outright assume the long-term negative impact on society is simply not within your power, even for someone of your celestial intelligence. I don't quite see why a woman can't be independent, educated, and in control of her own goals without bringing down the entire species as a result; she can still have as many kids as she wants and they might even be raised to be more intelligent and beneficial to our society as a whole, especially if she has two PhD's.
Say what you want about the feminist movement (I'm not necessarily a fan of its "achievements" either), but no one on this planet is in a position to conclusively state whether it will be positive or negative in the grand scheme of you or I's simple, terrestrial, western/eastern, or Dave's world existence.
You're right, we're animals, part-chimps who use 10% of our brains. But it's just a ride. I keep thinking about what bloopity bloop said yesterday about all the losers on here who couldn't find vagina back home and bust their nut on this board (which was a great post by the way).
Like the Latvian guy, they need this submissive woman, the simple woman who doesn't know any better because her life experience is limited and will revolve around her male counterpart's twisted ego. No one reading this is going to innovate great things within our society or change the world because of their testosterone. They're just going to use it to create off-handed assumptions and take their personal frustration out by ranting, over and over and over again. Take it easy.

People's sensibilities are too delicate. Everyone is either a sexist/misogynist, racist, etc. etc.
The way most of you guys argue is through "exceptions". There's always an exception to the rule, it doesn't make you smart to point them out, it actually makes you a non-contributor to any discussion.
On a micro level, when you have a strong woman who has two doctorates, works her ass off AND raises a wonderful family, it's awesome. But not many people are going to be able to achieve this type of perfect equilibrium. You think it's really all that common? No it's not. We all have sacrifices to make in life, especially when it comes to children.
When you have large segments of society telling young women that they should do exactly as men do, there is going to be some negative impact showing up somewhere else. It's just not sustainable.
There have been surveys in Germany which has shown that many women are fine with having no children whatsoever. No matter how you want to spin this, this is bad news for any country. Of course no one wants a state that forces you to have kids, but of course government/society should try to incentivize more births.
There's nothing wrong with being a mom. Everyone likes mom the best. You can't ever replace mom.
Stop living in your fantasy world. Women are never going to be equal to men nor will men ever be equal to women. Men will probably get paid more than women for a similar job for many millennia to come for whatever the reason is. Women will continue to have to sacrifice their lives to bear children. Society will always eventually end up judging women mainly on non "man"-criteria. There are countless number of women will who continue to be heroes and contribute immensely to our world, but the hard reality of the situation is that you cannot have too many chiefs vs. Indians.
Are strong, successful women admirable? Yes. I probably admire them more than some women do. But do we need to treat everyone as equals in every aspect? No f'ing way. |

So basically, having the ability to reproduce is a disability, and women should stop being so selfish and have your babies.
I guess adoption is out of the question???? |

My mother believed this before she had kids, but found that the reality was quite different. Telling people to have children so someone will like you is disgusting. It's mom's job to take care of the kids, not the kids' job to give her a reason to exist.
These anti-woman ideas aren't good for anyone. Not men, women, or children. |

Appreciate the respectful response. But I never used the words sexist, misogynist, etc. And I didn't state any "exceptions" or qualify an end result based on absolute gender equality. You initially raised the two PhD's concept and said it was meaningless, saying no one would care. Short term negative impacts are one thing, but it doesn't necessarily have to jump start assumptions about a long term overall detriment towards the future of the human race. Those things tend to work themselves out and the planet, as an entity within itself, could obviously care less. I don't live in a fantasy world and I never said women should be equal to men in all aspects. We're all different, that's why I can't be the starting center for the Knicks. But it doesn't have to be deterministic or based on broad-sweeping conclusions regarding the future as we often see it, often in shortsighted fashion no less, that's all. I really don't want to argue though. I do believe, however, that the upward mobility of females will be an important part of the long term future of humanity in general. Even if it takes these hoes forever. |
