So I've been here 4 months, and on/off the whole time I've been battling with a really dry itchy scalp >_< I've NEVER had dry scalp problems before...Is it the water? I bought Skin Food's beer hops shampoo/conditioner on recommendations from this board, and it seemed to help for a while, but now I'm back to itchytown! And advice?

You could try adding some baking soda to your shampoo and scrubbing your scalp with the pads of your fingers. I don't know if it will help with dryness, but it should help exfoliate your scalp if you are getting build up from products or hard water.

Nizoral. Head and shoulders is actually pretty useless for anything beyond basic dandruff.

Nizoral or Selsun Blue.

You might have to ask someone to get it off base. Or you might want to try a pharmacy to see if they have anything simlar.

Nizoral is available in most pharmacies, in 2 sizes, and you can even get a prescription for it from some docs.

I use Grandpa's Old Fashioned Pine Tar shampoo, ordered from iherb.com about once a week. I get dry scalp in the winter, here. It seems to help.

I suggest not using any soap or shampoo, just use water and use your hands to scrub well. Soap has been around less than 8,000 years, compared to millions of years of use adapting to using water. If using only water wasn't effective, we would never have evolved to have invented soap.

I stopped using soap and shampoo almost 4 months ago now and my hair is silky smooth, my skin was not dry in the winter, and I have no body odor. I did this for several weeks before telling anyone, to see if they could smell a difference. When no one did, I had my friend run her fingers through my hair and she was surprised at how good it felt. She even asked, "What have you been using?" She was shocked when I told her, but has since stopped using shampoo herself.

Sure, we evolved without soap. But, surely, people stank.

Try the pine tar stuff. It's mild and fairly natural. Also, only shampoo once or twice a week.

The water and the shampoo here will dry you out. I quit using Korean shampoo and it improved, although my scalp is still a bit dry. I sometimes get flakes if I scratch, but it's not itchy so I don't scratch.

Don't use dandruff shampoo unless you're flaky AND greasy. It you're just dried-out Head and Shoulders or Nizoral will make it worse.

And surely today people don't read the entirety of a post. If people stank it was because they didn't bathe every day, not because they lacked for soap. And it's not like I'm not active during the day, and don't sweat. I work with kids, and they have me running around all the time. I've also found that, since I've stopped using soap, my hair and skin don't feel greasy when I wake up. It used to be so bad you could've wiped your bread on my forehead for oil. Now when I'm camping or something and don't bathe for days, I don't feel dirty. I do stink then, I'm not gonna lie, but so does everyone at that point.

You could try shampooing every other day and only conditioning on the days in between. Also, this might get expensive, but if the water is the problem, you could try rinsing your hair with bottled water.

Out of curiosity, I looked this up. I am thinking about doing the olive oil massage myself.

I second the Nizoral. Nothing else has worked except for this.
