I want to recommend to everybody on this board an excellent Indian restaurant called Tandoori. They cook delicious Kashmiri style Indian food. The owner himself is from Kashmir and has been in the restaurant business for more than 10 years. He hires professional cooks from India. The waiters there are very attentive and will look after you well.
If you go to this restaurant, you will enjoy the authentic Indian food and the atmosphere. Very friendly staff.
How to get there:
Go to Ewha women's university subway station, line number 2 (green line) exit 3, After coming out of exit 3 walk 30 meters take first right, walk 60 meters you will find Tandoori on your right.
Restaurant phone number is (02-312-0777) |

This post has appeared on here before, so I guess Dev is the owner/waiter.
I went to the restaurant and it was a very average affair. If you want decent curry around that area try Manokamana in Sinchon

manokamana is nice and decently priced.
however, my next door neighbours told me that most of the indian food you find in korea is actually nepalese and marketed as indian. apparently real indian food here is much more expensive. |

No. I'm just a customer who is a fan of the restaurant. I like the people who run it. They are very kind. The food is good. I want it to stay open, so I am spreading the word.
Also, if you're in Itaewon, head over to Taj Palace. Again. Excellent food and nice people running it. The nan bread there is heavenly.

I feel that it's important to spread the word about good restaurants on Dave's because there are a lot of not so great ones that, just because they're conveniently located, get a lot of business while the customer gets not so great food.
I won't name these restaurants because I'd rather keep this thread positive. If you know any especially good Inidan restaurants, please share them here. |

I'm with the OP on Tandoori in Ewha, it's pretty good. On the other hand, dunno what the Itaewon branch is like, but the Agra in Myeongdong was a very sad, overpriced affair. Made me appreciate Tandoori even more. |

Interesting, how we can perceive things so differently. My husband and I love indian food, we had been in many restaurants in Seoul and Agra is one of our favorites. It's kind of dark, but we don't think it looks sad, it is elegant, beautiful, cozy (I love to seat on the big leather couches) and we LOVE the food. We also don't think it is expensive, we went there three days ago and had plenty of delicious food for not so much money. We will be there again next wednesday, but we're curious about Tandoori, will go there soon =) |

Are you talking about the branch in Itaewon, or Myeongdong? The decor itself was nice in a modernist "date place" sort of way. The sad part was that after waiting 20 minutes, nan was brought out on its own...then nothing for 15 minutes...so as it had become stone cold I told them to take it back... a too sweet blueberry lassi I didn't want was brought (a nice gesture, but if asked I would have preferred a plain one)...then finally 10 minutes later the curry and the same nan reheated (therefore brittle and dry) was served. So after 45 minutes this is what the Myeongdong branch managed to produce, at a price a good 5-6000won more than I usually pay for the same thing.
For that sort of service, I can do without the "chic" light fixtures, candles in dark "ambient" lighting, underpaid student staff, and host with girly hair. |

I wouldn't say the naan at Taj Palace is heavenly...
I actually find it a bit bland, dry, and not at all the consistency good naan should be (it's just hard and flaky).
Taj is still my vote for best Indian in Seoul, though... which is sad, considering the food there is just OK.
I give HK the nod for best Indian food in ALL of Asia--aside from India, which would be competitive.
If you're ever in Hong Kong, check out the Chungking Mansions (Wong Kar Wai fans?), hit up Swagat on the 2nd floor. Now THAT is heavenly Indian food. |

The reason I love Taj Palace's nan is because it is crispy and this provides a nice contrast with the curry sauce. Nan in other restaurants can be soggy, heavy and feel like an anchor in your stomach.
I will try to keep a mental note of this restaurant in HK. That restaurant may very well be the best one in the world. Actually, it was the Taj Palace owner who told me that Indian restaurants outside of India tend to be better than the restaurants in that country because the majority of restaurants in India are run be mom & pop. Since many of them do not have professionally trained cooks, on average, the restaurants in India are not that great. He also said that many of India's best cooks get lured outside of India for better prospects.
Thanks again for your post. It was very informative. Wong Kar Wai's movie Chungking Express is a great one. When I go to HK, I will order a chef's salad (joke from the movie). |

I like Usmania across from the Mogal. It's got a nice spread for their buffet. They got great deserts too. Love the birds custard. |
