Do you know anyone who's opened a business in Korea and succeeded?

Do you know anyone who's opened a business in Korea and failed?

Do you know anyone who's bought a business and made a go of it?

I'm curious to hear tales of both successes and failures. Particularly ones which aren't EFL related.

And, if you know neither, what is a business you'd imagine would be successful in Korea? Don't worry about anyone stealing your top secret ideas: You'll probably never do it nor will anyone reading them.

Dont know anyone who opened a business and succeeded or failed here. Mainly because I don't know ANYONE in korea at all =p.

I don't have a plan to do this anytime soon but my idea would be to open a small animation studio and import Preproduction work from Europe/ north America for Feature Animated films , commercials, animated tv pilots and a bunch of other art related stuff. I would keep the studio small , around 5 people. A few artists and some a person to deal with paperwork / contracts/ management/ producing. Reason I think It would do well is because I have connections out west, Korean artist rates are much lower here than out west ( which is why japan and western countries export their animation work here). I would be able to quote low and still make a profit here. Clients would be happy... Also I'd like to bring original content to the korean animation market and make a name for myself here as a foreigner "artist"...

Anyways like i said No plan to do this anytime soon. I will only consider this option when I have too many clients to handle which I dont at the moment.. Perhaps if I'm still living here in the next5 years ....

I know people who have opened very successful bars and restaurants. Good service, good location, good food, good value, niche market...the standard rules for success apply.

Then there are the odd consultants, some in business services (communication) and some in marketing/PR/strategy. They do fine, although I don't know too much about their businesses in particular.

I've known a few voice actors over the years who have really done well by themselves (at or over 100K a year). Also knew a guy who started his own test writing business from back in the U.S. Think he has around 10 employees now and is doing quite well. Funny to exclude the English related work as a lot of these independents will make at least as much as someone running a brick and mortar business. Oh, well....
