|
|
My girlfriend and I are going to Hong Kong next week. We're finalizing our itinerary and are trying to figure out whether Macau is worth going to. Neither of us gamble, and we've both been to Las Vegas. From any personal experiences, is Macau worth going to? There seems to be plenty of sights to see in Hong Kong, so we're not sure we want to take a whole day to go to Macau.
Second, we've been reading a lot of bad reviews about Disneyland. Has anyone been there? Is it worth the time? (I've been to Disneyland Paris and my girlfriend has been to the LA/Anaheim one). |

Macau has some great history. The former Portuguese sites are worth seeing. Even if you are not into gambling, the spectacle of the casinos would be interesting. I visited Macau for the day during a trip to Hong Kong and was there for less than 12 hours. It's a nice day trip and another passport stamp if you are a collector.
I also went to Hong Kong Disneyworld while I was in HK. It's true that it is no where as large as the other parks, but it is a little taste of a America, both figuratively and literally. It was a nice change of pace if you don't compare it to the other parks. It is a bit pricey, but if you enjoy Disney parks, you will have a nice day there. Just don't go into to it expecting too much. |

I'd recommend the macau daytrip as well. The ferry ride over is fast and the scenery is a bit different than hong kong. You can do the worlds highest bungee jump in macau as well as visit the worlds largest casino (city in a city) The Venetian. Not just a casino, but has lots of designer shopping. Good luck. |

I would say do 1 night in Macau. It might even be better to go directly from HK Airport to Macau, and then come back to HK the next day.
From the pier, you can take the bus for the Venecia Hotel. It is free and they don't check if you are a guest. From there, see Macau tower and hang out around the city.
I went there for 1 night and did no gambling. It's just a cool place. I'd love to go back.
Disney, do it. It was fun even for an adult. PM me with any specific questions about Disney. |

I wouldn't do Disneyland, but Macau is DEFINITELY worth a day, even if you don't gamble. |

Contrary to the above responses, I'd say to give Macao a pass. No offense to the locals there, but it's really a bit of a dump overall, and certainly not worth spending a night in if you've only got 5 days in HK. There are about 2 or 3 streets of cultural interest, but that's about it.
HK has plenty to see and do to fill more than 5 days. There are lots of outlying islands and beaches even nicer than Macao.
As for Disneyland, it's not for me, either, but if you are an afficionado of theme parks, you might like it. However, locals will still vouch that Ocean Park is still better than Disney.
Either way, you're sure to have a great time. Have fun! |

Macau is worth it for an afternoon, very different from HK, easy to get to and some neat architecture and portugese food. Also a nice break from HK if you want one.
You couldnt pay me to go to Disneyland anywhere. If you dont have kids the money is better spent on other things |
