Hello,

I've been living in Korea for a year and currently have a visa that expires in June.

My question is:

- If I get a job at a new company, what documents do I need to get/renew my visa? Do I have to do a criminal check again? I haven't been back to Canada since coming here....

Thanks.

IF you are able to complete a transfer of your sponsorship you will need:
contract, ARC, passport, new business sponsorship, new business registration (copy), application and fee (30k won).

If you are getting a new visa (rather than a transfer) you will also need a NEW CBC with certification AND a new degree copy with certification.

Thanks handsome.

a) what is an ARC?
b) Do you know if I can get a criminal background check from here without going home? If so, how do I go about doing it and how long does it typically take?

ARC = Alien Registration Card (your Korean ID card).

Yes, you can get one from here from the RCMP but it takes 4-6 months.
Details are on the RCMP website and there is a link from the embassy website as well.

I think you can get a check through the Winnipeg Police Department, and it only takes a few weeks. Is this right?

I think the really tricky part is degree verification. I think you have to have it notarized in your permanent residence in Canada (same province) and then verified by the consulate there. So, you have to send your docs to your family (I think it's original degree, and a copy which gets notarized, and transcripts)... then they have to take them or send them to the consulate, then back to you. argh.
