| Jack Leighton or Stephen Harper for PM? Polls looking close. History will be made either way. |

NDP have gone way up, but conservatives are still in the lead and the rise of the NDP was at the expense of the liberals and the bloc.
It will be a conservative minority government or a coalition putting Layton on top. |

Harper.
The problem is that NDP and the left side has competition. Harper has no competition for right-leaning Canadians. |

Right now the polls are 36% Conservatives and 31% NDP. It's not that far, but too far to put NDP in power without a coalition, which should not be ruled out. |

Yeah, it's going to be Harper in a minority. Hopefully there's no coalition... that would be bad and Alberta would probably explode.
I'm not completely sure what's going on with the Liberals, to be honest... I mean, I guess I can understand not feeling comfortable with Bela Lugosi leading the country--but NDP???
I have to wonder if all of these 'young voters' have actually read the NDP platform or if they're just thinking 'it's cool to be left'... because I've looked at it and I have no idea how anyone except maybe Dr. Manhattan could possibly pull all of that off. |

If a coalition takes over the country, I wonder how the left wing voters will react. It is legal but very undemocratic. Will we be the next Egypt/Libya/Syria (except more civil)?

I think voting NDP is seen more as not voting Liberal or Conservative. No one expects them to do everything they say.
And a coalition is entirely democratic. They're joining their seats, not their votes.
I'm voting rhinoceros, all the parties are clowns. |

I agree that a coalition isn't undemocratic at all... it's probably the most democratic form of government that there is-- more democratic than what we've had for quite some time.
I think that the real problem is that certain people see it as 'unCanadian' (or just something that they don't want because they want their guy to win)... but it would still be bad because some people are cowboys.
Bohol are you saying that the Libs and Cons would form a coalition?? I really can't see that happening-- they're like bright shining summer day and deep dark cold winter night... even if my hometown riding, the Liberals choose the well-educated and refined intellectual and the Cons choose the dumb-as-a-post good old boy... pretty much the essence of the division. I can't see those two having very much in common. Maybe back in the day, but not now.
If a left-leaning coalition takes over, I can definitely see the West getting really upset unless they're given something to pacify them... but maybe not, because they really seem to irrationally hate Layton. |

I'd agree ... if they declared their intentions before the election. If they deny it, or brush it aside... and then drop it after an election, it feels undemocratic to me. |

I guess Canadians have decided to give Harper a chance and see what he can do. I am sure 4 years later some will be satisfied, some will not, and some will never be satisfied no matter what.
If Harper was just a few seats shy, I would have guessed he'd ask the Bloc for their support to pass bills. The Bloc is fading out of existance and they'd need that opportunity to remain relevant.
Goodbye Iggy!! (I hope)
