Just a heads up to all LOTR fans or MMORPG players.
LOTRO went free a few days ago, so you can now enjoy the game without paying for it. The gameplay is a lot like WoW and will appeal a lot to WoW fans.
If anyone wants to start a new account/level/play together, especially if you're in Bundang area, let me know.
I'm going to start sometimes this weekend. Trying to decide on what class to play.

It's been f2p for a month now. I love LotRO but..
I'll just warn you, it's more like an extended trial, it's only really 'free' until about lvl 22-24 when you will have to buy your first quest pack from the store to continue questing.
I have a sub, I've been playing for years. If you enjoy the game after your "trial" you should really consider buying the expansions and paying a monthly fee. If you refuse to a pay a dime for this game you will be so inconvenienced and at such a huge disadvantage, you won't last long. |

by around level 26 quests are the only thing that give the XP you need to continue advancing. I used to play a few months back but got bored of the grindyness and let my subscription lapse |

It's not a great MMO because it's quest based?
I think you are looking for an RTS or FPS game. |

sry for resurrecting the dead thread, but I've been playing this for a few weeks now. The free content is now enough to take you to lvl 32 or so and it would take a month or two to cover.
you also make enough turbine points to buy at least one and possibly two (if you finish all the quests with at least two chars) quest packs which can take you to 40ish.
there are also enough dungeons and instances to entertain you even more.
so for f2p this game is great
if anyone wants to join, let me know. ive been playing with my co workers on and off and we decided to start in shire just recently. |

I just got my Mines of Moria edition, so I'm thinking of starting over as a new class on one of the more populated servers (probably the RP one, msg me if you wanna try to do it together hehe) |

Also, Rift is kind of boring in my opinion and plus there's a monthly fee on top of that...
as for LOTRO,
generally speaking Windfola, Vilya and Firefoot have smaller population that other servers and I was playing on Imladris up to now and kind of got sick of waiting too long to find a group
so i think I'll migrate to one of the bigger servers
Brandywine has the biggest pop
Elendilmir is the Oceanic server, which means most people play when we play
Landroval is the RP server with a high pop
not sure which I'll choose yet though
btw if this is your first time trying LOTRO, each race gets a very different selection of quests
Hobbits - cute, funny, amusing and somewhat time consuming quests
Humans - serious, down to business, mostly kill task quests
Dwarves/Elves - somewhat depressing, no hope type of situation, save everyone quests
I'm about to finally finish my hobbit quests and I gotta tell you, Turbine managed to bring Shire to life so well!!!
so unless you're planning to do all three races, choose the one that you think you'll enjoy more |
