Do employers generally offer to pay for the flight beforehand or will applicant pay for flight to Korea and then be reimbursed?

Sorry, I am a newb.

And also will the Republic of Korea require a round trip ticket for the visa or will a one way ticket suffice.

Thanks.
Very Happy

you usually purchase it and they'll reimburse.

if you plan to work for hagwons like "wonderland," i suggest you purchase round trip ticket, just in case you want to fly back home. otherwise, you'd only need one way ticket. Razz

Amen to the above about Wonderland - the one in my neighbourhood has an average of only four months before teachers quit. I've never heard of anyone renewing there.

My boss purchased the ticket before I came, and that was that. I made sure it was one of the requirements that I set for the recruiter (me being broke and not being able to afford a flight out here, money only for getting set up etc).

Good luck in finding a decent job out here!

Tom

For a hagwon, have them pay. They will have to treat you nicely for a couple months then to get their money back.

For a public school, it is understood they are more reliable in reimbursing. I haven't done it though.

buy your own ticket = start as 'hostage'

wait untill you have your visa
say you can't afford to buy a ticket
and they'll get a one-way ticket for you

get your documents back (dip. etc.) + copies
of every thing you'll need for a new visa run in case
any or all of the things you read on this board come up

Hagwan = don't trust them. Let them prepay your ticket. Many still do.

Public school = you pay and get reimbursed. They do the reimbursement within 30 days (usually indicated in your contract).
