Ok, in another thread, I have been reading posts by someone that seems to be either seriously intolerant and judgmental, or else a sock...so I checked the posting history on the person's handle. I do that sometimes to get an idea if a particular post is "in character" or "out of character."

If someone seems reasonable and sincere in other threads, I usually cut him/her some slack. If not, then I may call the person out on their views....

Anyway, I was just trying to decide if the person was sincere, or a troll...and I found a tremendous amount of personal information....

Maybe I am paranoid, but I wouldn't want people to have easy access to that kind of information about me...and I am honestly not sure if he knows it is there (someone else posted on his account -- he may not have intentionally provided it himself).

...so, should I send the person a PM and tell him? Or is my reaction an over-reaction? (I actually feel nauseous about it -- like when I see students leaning out the third story window at school...then again, I am afraid of heights, too.)

Additionally, how many folks here prefer to keep their board handle/persona separate from their real name/personality?

I would pm this person and let them know.

Having personal information open to others on this site or others is not a good idea.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but while I'm willing to talk about my experiences and views, I refuse to give away any information that may go down on an application and help identify me (e.g. name, age, race, gender, etc.). Including these bits of info doesn't offer any clout (I know I have none) on these boards, so why mention them.

Yeah, I would tell him his fly is down. I can read your sincerity now, so hopefully he'll recognise it too if you decide to PM him.

Yeah, I PM'ed the fellow. I was at the tipping point -- I thought I should speak up, but one thing I have learned about unsolicited suggestions is that they are seldom welcomed...but I pointed him to what I found, and suggested he might want to consider editing it....

Actually, that was the source of the hesitation...thought my pointing out a potential problem would come across wrong....

Isn't that kind of his/her problem?

Same goes for all the dipshits out there on Myfacetweet.

Yes, it IS his problem, and yes, people react badly to folks offering up suggestions or advice without being asked...but I am also a guy that pulls over nearly every time I see someone stranded on the side of the road and ask if they need help I can provide, or want me to call someone for them.

Fly

I think pulling over to help someone is different.
I always do too.

Let the fools continue being ignorant and offering up half-naked pics
of themselves, making controversial youtube videos, and the like.

You should see my wall. It's covered with all Dave's ESL Cafe users, and I'm trying to connect the dots, you see! Trying to see who is who!?

*nervous twitch*

Haha, just joking around. But seriously, I bet I have an idea of the 'troll' you are talking about. Let's just say he spends way too much time on this board.

My advice -- think of this board as something that comes and goes. It may be helpful to you for a while, but in the long run, what will it really do? What accomplishment does it give? What is the purpose, meaning of it all? Pretty much nothing more than having a random conversation in a coffee shop, something you'd probably forget the next day...
