Hey guys, was wondering if I wanted to teach in Seoul this coming teaching semester, what kind of salary should I be expecting?
I have a bachelors in finance from a Top 30 American business school.
2 Years experience with Epik program. Took a year off recently
Have a Tesol 100 hrs. With a grade of A.
I'm 27, "handsome" looking, but asian. It wasn't a problem for EPIK but slightly concerned if I go the hagwon route being yellow faced.
Any advice or words of wisdom? Any help appreciated and much thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
I'm thinking that 2.5 mil is what I should be aiming for? :/ |

Yeah I think you are correct. 2.4 - 2.5 is what you could expect in PS if you were working there so that's around what you should ask the hagwon for. |

Irrelevant, unless you got an MBA- that could get uni work.

Salary bump

Number 1, what are you aiming for? Hagwon or public? Uni? Your post wasn't clear.
Two- being in Seoul after 2 years and getting 2.5- is that with or without OT/housing? Your bar is pretty high. Or you can apply to one of those SAT hagwons, being fluent in Korean can't hurt either. |

Your degree is Finance doesn't matter in the EFL market here. |

2.3 is what you will probably end up getting. |

Well, sorry to say that you just aren't exceptional enough a candidate to break out of the 2.1 ~ 2.3 orbit. Loads of people here with similar resumes. |

Thanks for your replies.
Ok so it seems like I should be shooting more like for 2.1-2.2. That's fine, I wasn't really expecting to make 2.5.
I kind of want to teach at a hagwon, mainly because I feel I could contribute more to the impressionable youth (I might be deluded). And I'm under the impression it would make for better resume material (possibly another delusion)
Also, this would be my first time In Seoul. I taught in Daegu before, that was fine, but I'm hoping Seoul has a lot more to offer in terms of privates or whatever...
Anyone legally teaching privates in Seoul know what going rates are? (I'll hitch the ugliest ajuma if need be just to teach privates) |
