Has anyone tried it? What's it like? What's inside? |

I was pretty sure torte meant turtle. So I was expecting chocolate, caramel, and pecans.
What I got was chocolate and effing rasberry seeds. Yes, seeds. Right in the middle of the cake. Crunchy, inedible rasberry seeds.
What looked so good on the outside, and something I was duped into paying like 17,000 for, I just threw in the garbage.
Stupid Costco. |

Here is some information on the Sachertorte:
Quote: |
Composition
The cake consists of two layers of dense, not overly sweet chocolate cake (traditionally a sponge cake) with a thin layer of apricot jam in the middle and dark chocolate icing on the top and sides. |

It's Costco's fault that you can't read French? |

Raspberry seeds?? It's not supposed to have raspberries in it.
Torte just means cake. Sacher is the name of the guy who "invented" it. You can't tell anything about what's in it from the name.
I almost bought one last night, but ended up going for the pineapple upside down cake instead. Now I'm extra happy about that. The pineapple cake is great, the red velvet cake was great. What went wrong with this one?
Will be checking this thread for updates. I really want to try that cake, hopefully 46u just got a bad one.

I've had different kinds of Sacher torte - they can range from really delicious to tasting like just plain chocolate cake. I've never had one with seeds in it though and never was it so bad that I couldn't eat it - strange! |

Nope, it's all the same: bad. I never really understood how could Austria bring this awful thing to "World fame". No offense for Austrians. |

Tried it and it was AMAZING. Frankly, the raspberry stuff was just like raspberry jam-which usually has seeds anyway. I thought the seeds and jam gave it a great texture.
So inside is a thin layer of jam and a type of fluffy light colroed chocolate mixture. The cake and frosting tastes like a Sarah Lee devil's food cake. It looks like hard chocolate but it is soft (the icing..I mean) Moist, rich, sinful on the inside. Oh so yummy. I will certainly be buying it again, unlike the red velvet cake which I hate. |

The original Austrian Sacher is very good, but unless you've eaten it at the Sacher Hotel in Vienna, you've been eating imitations. Now it's not their fault if the imitations are sometimes bad. |

Meh, I know it means cake.
In any case, I stand corrected, but I still fail to see how turtle would equal chocolate, caramel, and pecans. |

Oh dear. That cake was awesome. Possibly the best cake I've ever had (at least in the last three years since I came to Korea).
northway, you've never had a turtle cake? The recipe is based on the Turtle chocolates. |
