He was not found innocent of rape. The rape charge was dropped. That means he probably got a plea deal and was only charged with the offenses he was found guilty of. He was never tried on the rape charge, so his guilt or innocence on that charge was never proven. That is not the same as being found innocent.
At any rate, he was found guilty of assault and for some reason was allowed to continue playing on his school team. Schools are supposed to uphold standards of good conduct for their players, but apparently this school has low standards. The behavior of the school officials in this case is shameful. They are aware of the assault charge, yet still demand that the cheerleader he assaulted clap for him and expelled her from the team when she didn't. She has done nothing wrong. If anyone should have had to leave the school team, it should have been the one who committed a crime, not the 16 year old girl he attacked. The school officials showed a complete lack of compassion and common sense by putting a game above the dignity and well being of one of its students. |

I totally agree with you, very good summary. The person at the school that berated her should have had action taken against him. I also think her lawsuit wasn't that out of order in the scheme of things. She actually handled her courtside protest with dignity. I think she's one very brave and together young person. |
