Here are more details-

Korean copies crucifixion death of Christ

A taxi driver who has been alleged to have extreme religious views has been found dead on a crucifix, police said on Wednesday.

A police officer said that he made an apparent attempt to copy the death of Christ.

The body of a 58-year-old male, surnamed Kim, was found on Sunday on a wooden cross in an abandoned quarry in the central city of Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province, with nails on the cross going through holes in his hands and feet, according to the police officer.

The man, wearing only underpants and a crown of thorns, had a stab wound to his right waist and several whip marks in a reconstruction of Christs death, he said.

A mirror was placed in front of Kim so he could see himself on the crucifix, while other items such as a hammer, hand drill and knife were found nearby.

We found at the scene pieces of paper describing how to construct a cross and carry out a crucifixion, the officer told AFP. He added it was still unclear whether or not Kim wrote the memo himself.

A forensic examination has been under way to determine the cause of his death. Authorities said a drill pierced Kims hands and he may have died of excessive blood loss.

Kim was described by neighbors as being fascinated by Christianity.

Investigators are trying to establish whether he killed himself either alone or with the help of others around Easter.

They said they were not excluding the possibility of murder.

Yonhap news agency cited a former pastor as saying Kim had fanatical religious views.

Korea has 8.6 million Protestants, 5.1 million Catholics and around 10 million Buddhists in its population of around 49 million, according to official figures.

I've heard of Buddhists setting themselves on fire in protest (i.e. Vietnam), but I don't recall hearing about anyone doing this. Has anyone ever come across this type of thing going down?

Every year there are Filipinos who do this, but not to the point of death.

Maybe this was an adult version of that great Haley Joel Osment film, Edges of the Lord.

Is it even possible to crucify yourself? How did he get the nails into both his hands? Sounds like murder, or at least assisted suicide.

Seems like he may have been obsessed and determined to get the deed done. Sorta like some of my students' quests to turn in an essay without actually having to think or write on their own.

It is possible to do this alone. I could think of several ways he could have done this without help. I'm not posting any of them though because, frankly, I don't want to assist anyone in this endeavor.

Sad when religion kills someone like this. Yes, I know, not religion here so much as its interpretation. Still feels needless.

Out of interest, which posters here do you think would attempt to crucify themselves if they found out your secret information? I'm kinda curious, from a pure academic standpoint, as to how you could pull this off. I could see how it would be technically possible with hammer-carrying-pendulums.. but it'd leave massive clues for the detectives.

And.. what's in it for the self-crucifying? The bible isn't down with suicide, so if you do it yourself you're just another sinner. You kinda need someone to do it for you to be a martyr. Doing it alone you're just a sinner, no?

Self-crucification doesn't show faith, it shows poor reading skills.

This could be attributed to a number of factors (losing your virginity several times):

1) amnesia
2) re-incarnation
3) re-constructive surgery of the hymen if you are a female, although I am not certain if there is a cap on how many times this can be performed

Materials:

Hammer
Some wood
2 iron spikes
1 giant cross
Some rope
Spiderman webbing

Method:

Before doing anything, make sure you stretch! Don't want to pull a muscle!

1. Install cross into floor, use hammer if necessary.
2. Nail one spike into your hand/wrist.
3. Tie together wood and hammer.
4. Use Spiderman webbing to attach hammer and wood to your leg so it is off center and level with your palm or wrist when you bring your foot up towards your face.
5. Hold second spike to your palm/wrist and bicycle kick yourself in the face until it is driven into the cross.

You are now all finished! In one hour the webbing will disintegrate and fall off your foot.
