Hey guys, I haven't been here long at all but I've learned a lot already. First, my apartment doesn't have internet that I can connect to and I've been told I need to wait for my E-2 card to pay for it. I really like playing video games though and I use my computer to stay connected with people back home. So, where is the best type of place to go online to both play games and just go online in general? I prefer to use my own computer. Some people here have suggested just going to a coffee shop. They also said that I would not be able to use the computers at the pcbongs (No idea if that's the right spelling or if that makes sense) to play games because I need some kind of Korean ID number. Is that true?
My other question is about my co-teacher. My co-teacher is about my age and seems really nice. She is also the only other teacher that is at my school when I work because I teach the only morning class. Her English is a little weak so I offered to help her with it which she seemed really excited about. I was going to ask her if she wanted to go to dinner or something and just hang out one day this week after work but I don't want to send any kind of wrong message. At this point I would just really like to get to know her, nothing at all relationshipy or even in that direction. Would it be alright to ask her to grab food and is there a certain way I shouldn't act to avoid making things complicated?
Thanks guys! |

1) PC Bangs are your best bet. You can play some games without a Korean ID. If there's a particular game you want to play and can't, the guy working there can probably help you out.
2) You asked your co-teacher on a date. I hope she's cute. Congratulations. |

1. Can you not search for open wireless networks? Either way, you might still need an Alien Registration Card number to get online. Most of the time it takes about a month. Find some way to occupy yourself other than video games. You're in a new country, get out there and explore a little bit!
2. You asked her on a date without even knowing it, in that case. |

PC bang for sure. Also, see if there's an open wifi connection you can access in your apartment or at a coffee shop.
Just bring snacks to the office and do your English lessons with your co-teacher at school. I personally wouldn't ask to see my CT after school by herself just to avoid any misperception. |

you can't play any of the MMO without a korean ID number. you should still be able to play games like counter strike, warcraft and starcraft at the pc bangs though.
as far as internet, you at least need your bank account set up once you get that, then you'll just need your passport or ARC.
my co-teachers were always guys, much older than me or married, so i can't help you there lol. |

| I once asked a Korean co-worker out to the bar to play some darts--strictly as friends (I would never date her)--and she got freaked out by that. I would not advise asking her out to dinner or a date alone...now in a group it's ok. |

| Yeah, I'd avoid dating the co teacher, if things go sour at home they'll go sour at work also, can make Korea suckkkk (or rock I suppose, if they do work out.) |

Just tell her straight up you wanna have sex with her. It's easier that way.

lol thanks for the comments/advice. Here's my attempt at a response to everyone.
I would like to play League of Legends but I would really prefer to do it on my laptop with my own mouse and settings and all that. There are no wireless networks accessible from my apartment. ARC card, got it. Going to give the coffee shop on the bottom floor of my building a shot this week.
My Co-Teacher and I only teach 6 kids (hagwon) and we're seriously the only teachers at the school when we're teaching so it's really hard to get to know other teachers as they get there while I'm teaching and then I leave when they're teaching. Also, I like the idea of getting to know a Korean. My C-T is pretty cute but really, I'd rather avoid anything even remotely close to relationshipy until I have a better feel for the culture and all that. I haven't actually asked her to dinner yet but I was planning on it tomorrow. I was going to do something along the lines of "Would you like to go out for dinner or something when you get off and we can just talk, work on your English, and maybe get to know each other a little bit in the process." but I really have NO idea how that would come across.
Any more thoughts on the whole co-teacher relations? |

Congratulations, you came to the right country but there's millions of them aside from your CT. If you're determined to possibly make things awkward for both of you then go ahead and ask her out to dinner tomorrow. But if your inner Cazanniova, er Casanova, can hold out until you have that "better feel for the culture" that you seek (doubtful that'll happen by tomorrow), then just bring a beverage and/or snack for your CT (and even the other teachers) as thanks for being nice and helping out the new guy and you can talk about the English lessons and other minor chit-chat from there.
Also, make sure you compliment her when you see her using a fork. |

In Korea that's pretty much a date. Starting early eh? Good luck.
I suggest a mid-range dinner then a quiet corner of a beer bar somewhere. |

| You two are going to hook up. No doubt about it. Just pour on the compliments and ignore the negatives and she's yours. |

| Even in the States if you ask someone out to dinner its basically a date. Don't do it, never dip your you know what in the company ink. |
