I just received the FBI CBC. I understand that I have to send it to The secretary of state in Washington DC for an apostille? Is this correct? Is there anything i should do to speed up the process?
Thanks. |

Only thing you can do to speed it up besides including a self paid envelope is personally delivering it yourself. |

I just received mine too, and I was planning on driving to DC to get the apostille.
I just want to make sure: it is same-day service correct? I don't want to drive it all the way over there only for it still to take 15 days to get back to me. |

http://www.state.gov/m/a/auth/
found the answer myself. And it sounds like some folks went in person and it was same day service.
Once more unto the breach... |

Should I send a copy of the CBC or the original? If I send the original will it be kept by immigration when I submit it? |

Can't your secretary of state for your state apostille them? |

Yeah, I know that California will at the offices in LA and SF, but people keep harping on some new law for 2011 that immigration will only accept the DoS apostille from DC. So idk what I plan to do. I live in LA so it would be WAY easier to just get a notarized copy and have it apostilled here. |

Depends what state you live in. My state, Pennsylvania wouldn't and two other people I worked with, Colorado and somewhere else wouldn't apostille them either. |

I just got back my Apostille for my CBC and I strongly recommend Authxperts (http://www.authxperts.com/). For $100 paid through Paypal once they I mailed them my FBI check, they took to the Department of State in DC, got my Apostille, and overnighted it to me(Florida) through FedEx.
I got the check back 5 days after I mailed it out through Priority Mail to them, which is much faster than waiting 1-2 months through mailing it to the Department of State and a lot cheaper than other services. |

$100 to take your document to the office, wait 20 minutes and then mail it back to you, what a great racket. |

Are there people that have had to wait 1-2 months for this (if they included priority envelopes)? The site says 15 days and IIRC most people have said that it took 1-2 weeks. Great racket indeed. |
