Sounds like most of you are advocates for being poor role models for students, haha. Not me, give me a healthy teacher any day (if I'm a student).

Being a role model is not our job, that's the responsibility of the parents.

Our job is to teach English.

In 3 years I have never let a student see me smoking, but they all knew I did. One school told me they would only renew my contract if I agreed to quit, so I told them I would move on. What I do in my free time is no one else's business and has no effects on my abilities as a teacher.

Depends on the teacher really. Most schools have designated smoking areas, as long as your smoking there. No problem. Some really traditional teachers don't want the kids seeing them smoke and they always hide even though everyone students & teachers know they smoke. That's pretty rare though.

Most teachers including me, we just smoke. If the students see us... ehh.... As the Foreign teacher, the kids 'll probably tease you about it. They'd never do that to a Korean teacher.

Now the lines get a little blurred if a parent is walking around. Generally its not polite to smoke in front of them unless your drinking together.

Why all the hate? Nope, I have never been fat, but yes I did lose 80 pounds a few years ago. Read all my previous responses and you will see that I lost the weight after contracting TB while volunteering in a Cambodian prison.

By the way, my purpose in asking questions about teachers as role models has to do with research I am doing in order to gather data for a future academic publication focusing on unlawful discharge of public school teachers for failing to be good role models (ie, discharge for portraying unhealthy lifestyles).

Right. Data for research from a forum...nice. This place gives Wikipedia cred.

Now look...this is the Internet. Nobody believes anyone, so stop trying so hard to impress strangers. Why all the hate? Well, self-aggrandizing blowhards who set people up to insult them tend to bring that out in others, and the people around here are always happy to oblige.

We should cut you some slack though and assume that 10 pounds of what you lost was your brain. Razz
